Duck jibe
« on: May 23, 2020, 06:23:53 AM »
Nice how to video by Patrice Geunole on an easy variation of the traditional jibe. He posted this on his Facebook page under his name. Not sure if the link will work or if you have to ďfollowĒ him first.

Iíve done a few now and they are pretty easy if youíre already confident in regular jibes. The proís do a fast spin while fully de powered mid-jibe (youíll even see some double spins) but my first attempts were ole-guy slow so Iím not finishing my ďregrabĒ until Iím riding in the other direction. No big deal. If you mess it up the consequences arenít too bad. I guess you handle guys can discuss the ideal handle #Ďs for a duck jibe :)

Thanks for the share. I really enjoy reading his written (albeit translated or second language) description of the maneuvers. So many nuggets of info!

the translated wording always sounds a bit quirky but the slo mo video is what really helps me. Iím mostly a visual learner anyway. Have you tried any yet?

I tried a bunch of duck jibes yesterday on both tacks.  I made a couple from toeside but none from heelside.  The hand switch happens on the back handle which takes some preparation.  I dropped my wing twice just missing the switch.  It is a very weird feeling without the fixed pivot point of a mast foot.  You (I) can't go as early as on a windsurfer so it is a new timing.  Pretty much a straight downwind deal.  The bad ones are pretty funny because you are left holding an out of control wing by the back handle.

I was going to respond that this was one of the first wingsurfing videos that I ever saw so if it didn't already have a name we would probably need to call it the Naish Jibe :) .  Glad I went to look for it because I noticed that he is doing his hand switch on the front handle.  huh.  Pretty cool both ways.

I'm going to practice a bunch with my 2M Cloud on my Onewheel!  20 in a row and I should be golden in the water.  ;D

The three attempts I've made with my 5M Swing have been successful, albeit sketchy and ugly as hell! Pretty much as far as you can get from the above Naish vid.
