Tips for getting on the board with a harness (plus awesome waterstart technique)...

https://youtu.be/DIP0-wEQiP8

Great video!
Suspected a windsurf style waterstart should be possible, never seen it tried until now. Like the rear foot out on the windward rail idea, I'll bet that rail deckpad might help for this. Now if the water would just climb above 50 degrees 'cuz ya know... that's the only thing stopping me  ;)

The Ozone Connect harness is excellent for winging as well. Very light and flexible. Does not encompass the entire back in large sizes like the chameleon. More options for larger riders.

Dwight thanks so much for posting that harness video!  Super helpful to see the flex.  Hard for me to determine from just a product photo.
Did the Chameleon come that flexible or did it require some break in time?

All these posts have been really helpful!
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Question on harnesses in general -

Are they or were they designed to float?

Seems like some have a lot of foam, wondering if they function as a pfd at all?

It comes that soft. No break in required.

My guess, Dakine took out all the normal stiffness and support because it comes with a seat to carry half the load.

Hi Lieutenant - Is that hook one you already had or did you buy it recently? Couldn't find one online when I looked (maybe I've got lame GoogleFu) and was considering getting a standard spreader bar modified.
I'm 5'10", 66kg riding:
Swift Foil Boards custom 4'10 x 19.5" 35L
Gong Lethal 4'6 65L

It's hard to find daKine Maniacs. they haven't made them for quite some time. Last time I checked Windance in Hood river had a bunch.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I found a Maniac online   ;)

Also found an old but new ozone connect harness - that's a design style that seems about right for winging - as in really light and minimal.

I definitely don't have harness brain yet.  I went out at low tide, only about a foot of water over thick mud that i sank down about 6-12 inches into.  So without thinking i climbed on my board to prone paddle and put the harness hook through the glass.

My low cost option for a “Lightweight wing specific harness”, is this.
A $20 weight lifting belt (Harbinger 5), a $20 spreader bar (dakine maniac hook).
And a 2” web strap w/buckle $3, to keep weight belt closed.
I have been using this for a few sessions and it is working out great so far

The Leash lok option seemed a bit narrow for me.
I’m probably going to purchase a ozone connect pro in the future unless something new & better comes to market.
Me:5’11” (170cm) 160lbs (73kg) Age:61
Wings: Duotone Echo 4m,5m,6m
SUP Foil Board: Blue Planet 6’6” 117 liters
Quatro Drifter 5’4” 90 liter wing board
Foils: Go Foil Kia, Iwa, M200,
GL100,140,210 & NL190
Paddle:Wener Rip Stick

Good idea.  Looks similar to Home Depot/ Husky padded belt.  Make sure to open the hook wider or it can be challenging to unhook.
