That double concave looks very similar to the Hypr Hawaii gun... imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I guess :)

Funny enough, that's about the only design element I'm not confident about. Every other aspect of this board from Rocker to rail to outline was tested in all conditions.

It's a shame really, I was super stoked when he told me he'll built my custom shape so I incorporated his bottom contours (with some modification) in this board, in anticipation of doing this build thread and pump his brand some more, only to find out a month and a half later that's not going to happen. A lot of wasted time. Tino and Sunova on the other hand didn't even flinch, a week and half later and the board was already in the works.

It's seems like a pretty decent construction though not bomber but the weight is bomber at 23LB which is something I wanted to test for this type of board. 2 Weeks or so for the SOB.

For reference, here's the original bottom design that you seem to have copied.

This SUNOFAGUN custom build project is just a CUSTOM KNOCKOFF- RIPOFF...For 7 years now we were the first to do LONG GUNS with our patented Variable Width Hull design - this is the latest iteration - also available in 14ft - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ww8D8i5PJ8  - we get knocked off a lot because we're a small company

SUNOVA jumped into the BIG BULBOUS PENIS nose like every other company in the world...we WENT the OTHER WAY.. This includes the DUGOUTS ( we use outrigger canoes in Hawaii )

Starboard was the first to copy about 4 years ago for their ALLSTAR line of boards, this year about the same time Sunova did this, I found out that INFINITY did exactly the same custom build for another "Brand Ambassador" as a "custom knockoff" -

They can knock it off and when it worthwhile to take legal action, we will - but in the end THOSE are IN THE KNOW... THEY KNOW !! ... it's only the clueless that get conned into paying BIG BUCKS for a "custom" job when it has been our REGULAR PRODUCTION BOARD for more than 7 years !!!
Our GUN series goes from 9'6, 10'6, 11'6", 12'6 and 14'

I understand some buy ripoffs because they are CHEAPER but ours actually COST LESS and much better material and workmanship - We ONLY MAKE NAKED BOARDS - If you're gonna be Naked , you'd better be FLAWLESS -- BONDO and PAINT to hide crap is not an ATTRIBUTE

HYPR Philosophy - TRANSPARENCY - CLEARLY NAKED - " If you're gonna be NAKED, you better be FLAWLESS" - Our carbon boards are made with a single sheet carbon wrap for HYPR Strength & Stiffness - like racecars CARBON MONOCOQUE SHELL - we do not use carbon trimmings, scraps, recycled cloth, coconut fibres, balsa, FLAX and other cheap fibres...Would you make a supersonic fighter aircraft with recycled materials, it would fall apart ??? - It doesn't sound Green - but this is a high performance weapon, NO SHORTCUTS -

Please SPREAD the TRUE WORD so that others don't get RIPPED OFF - ALoha Ian

I found my answer on updated websites.
Maybe a separate thread to show pictures and weight of these boards, rationale behind fin placement and all the good things that help remotely looking at boards.

Tried to post this before - but it got deleted -- so I will reword it

Burchas could have just ordered it, and we ship boards to Australia all the time but with the global lockdown that is no longer possible to fly ANYTHING over 10ft - we have been looking for an Australian distributor for a LONG TIME... but everyone seems to just want to sell the cheapest nastiest crap.

We don't use SOFT materials like Bamboo, Paulownia, Balsa - that is CHEAP materials in the name of "sustainability for the environment" - that's why we don't use the whole log, just the strongest HARDWOOD veneers

For the quality materials and the ridiculous amount of labor we put into the boards - our boards are incredible VALUE - Cheap is NOT VALUE - I like to think we sell a Porsche for the price of a Toyota

Just to be fair... Your 'Coffee Table' looks a lot like a 'TV Dinner' from L41 ?
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

As far as the Hydro Hull design goes, Bill Stewart is the originator as far back as the early 80's for surfboards. If fact go back further to one of the original books on hull design 'Naval Architecture of Planing Hulls' by Lindsay Lord and you will see a very similar hull.

Nice to see someone bumping-up this thread. HYPRIAN, you should be flattered someone is taking design inspiration from your boards.
You could have been the one building the board but you had your reasons why you didn't want to, mostly because you couldn't ship it or so you said.

And for the record, no one is ripping off any one. This is MY custom shape. Not Sunova's. This is not a commercial model. while we're on details,
outside of the similarity in bottom contours in the Hydro V, this is a completely different board than your GUN, Otherwise I would have bought your gun
and saved my self the time and expense. You should know it because I sent you the 3D design of it.

I'll be happy to compare notes and schematics over an open forum to discuss the details, if nothing else it would make an interesting board design clinic.

I'm glad you got some more exposure though, You have beautiful boards and no one can take it from you :)

Now that would be cool. I would love to hear about the choice of fin placement for exemple on the two designs that are opposite. Also the position of the bungies on the tail pad?
Coupled with two detailled review one by Burchas and one by Area10.
Specially as I am quite interested in a low volume board for next year.

You have beautiful boards and no one can take it from you :)

That is absolutely true. All the better served by more measured and civil first posts in the forum regardless of the level of frustration.
