I decided to post this as a new topic here and in General Discussion so it doesn't get buried. Cheers.

Karl Kruger is the first and only stand up paddler to complete the 1200 kilometre Race to Alaska, and he is preparing to do a 3,000 km journey through the Northwest Passage. This individual has quite the story and these articles cover some of his life story and paddling exploits. Good stuff.

Page 39 on the paddling mag buyers guide. Several other articles on stand up in there as well.

Has a link to his NW Passage - when it goes live again. I suppose his NW Passage is pretty socially distant and all.... - but he'd have to wait 2 or 3 weeks to make sure he wasn't already sick before launching ... so maybe it's going to have to wait for  2021.....

anyway, his gofundme needs help....

Oof that was some personal stuff on the first link - the buyer's guide. Holy crap.

The guy is pretty amazing. I get the love of the northwest and islands and inlets - endless beauty. I hope to see him do the NW Passage. It's an exciting thing - not just a grind to cross an ocean (not to put down Bertish or de la Rosa) - but a journey.

Yes, that article revealed more into his personal history and he has an inspiring story. I draw parallels with what he describes in paddling for distance, not speed, and just with everything feeling right while on the water on an SUP.

No other outdoor pursuit has got me into that zone of being in the moment and having that combination of mindfulness while still getting exercise like sup. Paddling kayaks and canoes is relaxing and also fun, but the full body experience You get while standing up is the game changer.
