The balcony at Good Winds restaurant on the second floor of the Kitty Hawk Kites resort in Rodanthe on the Outer Banks. I worked there as an kiteboard instructor the first two years they were open around 2010, long before the knees went south. We mortal kiters loved to jump and spin (hence the current bad knees) but at much lower altitudes!, and preferably far away from hard objects! Winging will produce some great jumping opportunities, but nothing remotely close to kiting. Maybe I can figure out how to attach my paintin pole GoPro mount to my wing.....

Different sports...

I’m sure there are paragliders laughing at this.

You wouldn’t jump out a balcony with a surfboard but would you say surfing is lame?

Each sport has its niche. And I remember how windsurfers laughed at liters until people like Lou and Flash changed their minds. Wing dinging will progress and be kinda like windsurfing imo...it’ll never develop the lift a kite can ...but can still be amazing especially in waves. Jmo though

Agree! I didn't get inspired to learn winging so I could jump out of buildings (but that video I posted above is still pretty cool, and I don't kite!) I got inspired by the downwind surf potential as I don't get proper breaks near me, I assumed (correctly) that it's something I could do on the water 5mins from my house which is otherwise miserable for windsurfing and unsuitable for kiting and that it's so simple logistically, which is important for me with two small kids. In fact, it was Robbie's (first?) proper wingsurf marketing video that first gave me that 'wow' moment. I was a lapsed windsurfer but I immediately saw the potential this sport would have for me and knew instantly that winging was going to be my midlife crisis and get me foiling...

Perhaps a nice hijack of this thread - what inspired you to get into winging (and almost by definition not kiting or windsurfing)?
