What is your wind wing's span?
« on: February 24, 2020, 12:16:08 PM »
I want to buy another wing.  I think I would prefer OZONE. However, 'Contact us' does seem to have the meaning implied: I got no response from HQ on an inquiry about the span of the 5 and 6m. I figger the tribe will know!

My 4m WASP measures 110" (280cm) laid flat. (inflation does not change much). If I hold my arm out straight, at 55" shoulder height, the tip is at half span.  I see wings like the GONG 9m and imagine I would have to fly it waaaay high.  JD, the OZ Naish rep, reports he will park the wingtip on the deck of the board...

"I can maximise my forward thrust from the Wing-Surfer by having it as vertical as possible and effectively "closing the gap" with the water and board. This presents as much sail area as possible to the wind angle without producing unwanted lift upwards"

I do not ever expect to exhibit his skills, but I at least want the information to make an informed decision.

So, if you got a minute, measure your wing.  Thanks.

Thank you for posting this, I was just thinking about having references for all this yesterday.

Here are mine

wings were inflated for measurements, could vary by an inch or so

4m Naish version 1 = 117" wide by 64" deep/ chord

5m gong version 1 = 132" wide by 76" deep/chord

7m gong version 1 =  167" wide by 76" deep/chord

Thanks, NT...  That's what I was looking for.  Still have not heard back from Ozone, but GONG replied toot-suite  ...but cryptically.

"Thank you for your message. I’m not allowed to give you this kind of informations. You have to know that the SUPERPOWER will be perfect for you if you have already some skills in WINGfoiling. The superpower has a smaller scope, (approximately less 50cm than a PULSE for example). This is a powerful WING that is perfect when wind is under 20 knots, light and instable."

"I’m not allowed to give you this kind of informations."... ' Given benefit of the doubt, perhaps he did not understand the question or I was a Yank spy collaborating with a Chinese contractor.

Perhaps 'scope' in French is Span.  That smaller scope would be nearly 2 feet less than the unknown dimension of their Pulse.

Gong has a US guy handling us. His mother lives in Florida. My guess, he doesn’t know and doesn’t want to be bothered.

Dwight,  Maybe.. the Gmail RA was "GONG Nicolas - web seller" on their site at: 24 février 2020 à 22:51:29 UTC+1 (FR time zone). I asked a few more questions in my reply...

I should add the Cord for my Ozone WASP 4:  64/65" tail of center strut to face of LE tube.

No, ive seen the owner himself post in their forum  that he doesn't give certain measurements for fear of copying. :-\  A lot of these manufactures  are very tight on details of there products. Even on this data link we keep seeing wing span and other measurements removed. Seems really silly to me.

Personally i want to know how much these wings weight. For the ultimate "low-wind flying, the weight seems like one of the biggest factors. I'm holding my breath for  a 7,8 or 9 with the same weight to surface area ratio as the F-one Swing.

OZONE stepped up...   Hanes Burner via email

"Thanks for contacting Ozone and for your interest in our products.  Please find attached a few pics of the 4m, 5m and 6m WASP. As you can see, the span is approx. 10-20cm wider on each side.
Cheers. Hannes"

This got my attention today. A massive wing with a twin tip. Handling nuking wind with little distortion or bad behavior.

I guess wing span doesn’t matter anymore and we can ride gen 2 wings with near anything.
