Quick release dual track and pedestal
« on: February 12, 2020, 08:53:44 PM »
Interesting idea of the quick release dual track plate mount. Also, looks like they make an aftermarket gofoil pedestal and probably an option of short and long fuselage bolt mount.

Knowing a guy a who had T-nuts (with their large surface area compared to a silly dowel pin) break out of the tracks in his production windsurf foilboard.....hell no to that contraption.

yeah, I'm guessing its okay to use quick release on single sup surf fin but there's a lot of pressure/force on that foil mount area though we dont know until we try. Who's here the the test dummies  8)

Weight matters on these foil boards.

1) I have never met a dual track system that hasn't broken (No offense DW I think yours would hold up)
2) They may be fine for lighter boards and smaller conditions

You want it all to be LIGHT.  This thing would add undue weight and risk.

Might end up like this:

I must be missing something...what prevents them from sliding forward and/or backwards in the track during use?  ???

The weight of the board and the upward pressure of the foil. It’s really ingenious if you watch his videos.

It hinges back, not forward, so your entire weight is holding it in.

If you hit a rock, it can swing back, but the pins keep the foil in the tracks so you keep your foil.

It actually protects your tracks in that way. A hard hit can release. But once you see it work I think you’ll agree that there’s no way you’d knock this loose other than an aerial, which he recommends you don’t do.

For a weekend warrior this seems pretty great and hes selling a bunch so if it is a dud you will hear about it. So far nothing on social media that says anything bad.

I must admit I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more quick release type systems. I've got the Naish Abracadabra mast plate system and it's fantastic.

Sure it saves a bit of time and effort (which for me with 2 small kids maximises foil time) but the real win is packing up with cold claw hands. Anything that reduces fiddling with small parts in UK winter gets a big 👍from me.

It looks like it could have a place. I can see this working good for wing-foiling, Down-winding maybe even wake foiling (non jumping of course), as long as you can physically reinstall it in deep water could be a nice option.

Any idea what it cost?

Probably wouldn't use it in surf of any size. Getting caught inside may be a issue if the white water makes it release to the folded position, add some more white water to the folded out foil and...

$50 and it’s tested in the surf in Santa Cruz. Check him on Instagram. Tons of videos.

It’s actually made so you can adjust your foil in the surf between waves without a screwdriver stabbing you in your pocket. Hope someone on here grabs one to test before everyone declares it unworkable before they actually see or use one lol.

If you worry about it pulling back from drag you have to remember that the second you have forward motion to create drag, you also have lift/pressure to counter it.

Interesting. I’m currently using the Noir Matter quick flight system when bringing the foil on a jet ski. The quick release option is nice but I would still feel more comfortable with a screw. What about using the tail mount slides like this new system and have two standard T nuts in the front? Or maybe even just one.

Got it now...certainly an interesting concept. Like his inventor's spirit when it comes to trying to improve on the foiling game...some cool ideas.

Upon further inspection the simplicity of this device is appealing.
