LA Area Info
« on: February 07, 2020, 03:36:53 PM »
Hey Guys-

I have a work trip to LA and know I can squeeze one day of no meetings to do a day surf trip from LAX or North Hollywood depending on day

Few Questions:

Anybody that rents/ demos decent sups?  Id have to pick it up and drop it off same day. (arrive late night before)

Ive only surfed El Porto out there, been to Huntington but didnt surf.  Any spots with close rentals and ok surf?

United allows a surfboard/sup as standard baggage when you originate from CA.  I have been looking for a 8' 28-29 115l shortboard for some time.  May bring a board bag in case.  If anyone has a line on a used B-Line or local shaper with inventory let me know.  Boards are so much more prevelanet and cheaper out there. (watching Craigslist too- nothing yet)

Is late feb 3/2 weather out there?

and of course if anyone is up for a surf let me know!

Check out nikau kai over in manhattan beach while you are here. They have some older infinities in stock that may work for you.

You are more than welcome to borrow one of my boards while you are here if you like. I have a killer 8'10 x31" at about 128L. I also have my 8'3"x29.5" 125Lish phantom you can borrow if you promise not to snap it. lol.

I sold my blur v1 already but it was only 105Lish. My office is right by the airport.

I like the MB pier better than porto personally.

I usually wear my 2mm short sleeve long leg full suit in late feb. But you may be warm enough to trunk it. lol. Water has been chilly at 62ish degrees lately.

South is your better bet. OC even better. Porto/mb not horrible. The northern points have been rather flat lately.

I also have a paddle you can borrow with the board. I have a few fixed and one larger adjustable.

But if you are here on week day you can swing by my office in el segundo. Just rent a van or bring some soft racks.

No gold bars needed. Its double glassed with carbon rails. I doubt you could ding it unless you drove over it. lol.

Shoot me a pm and ill send you my cell.

Yes, call Jason at Nikau Kai - 310.545.7007 - and he'll definitely get you pointed in the right direction all "South Bay" related.

I'm sure if you talk to him nicely, you can easily convince him to head back down to "SanO" for an early morning surf adventure...as he's almost always looking for any excuse to head our way with foil and foil board in hand.

Even if you don't foil, he's fun to watch do it from whatever you're on in the water for a bit if nothing else.
Me: 6'1"/185...(2) 5'1" Kings Foil/Wing Boards...7'10 Kings DW Board...9'6" Bob Pearson "Laird Noserider"...14' Lahui Kai "Manta"...8'0" WaveStorm if/when the proning urges still hit.

Not sure if I saw a date you are coming out, but feel free to PM if you head further North.  I wouldn't mind bringing an extra board out for a session.  Have a couple nice ones that should meet your needs as if I recall correctly, you use about the same volume boards as me.  In addition to Nikau Kai, Sports LTD in Woodland Hills may have some older stock or used boards (no Infinity boards though) that may fit your criteria for a board to bring home.
