Surf Expo Orlando, January 8-10 2020
« on: January 04, 2020, 07:20:27 AM »
Blue Planet will be at booth #702.  If any of you Zoners will be there, please stop by and say hi, I will be working there mostly solo although Erik Antonson said he would come help for one day.  I will try to do some video interviews of interesting gear if I can make time and will post them here after the show.
Aloha, Robert

I won’t be there but look forward to your video, as always.

I’ll offer that you might consider a 360 camera if you can borrow one. A walk thru with that mounted on you would be an awesome way to shoot unobtrusive video and then frame the best shot later.

I’ve been thinking of this for trade show videos myself.

Good luck - doing that solo, Robert.  You will make friends easily around you - that helps for pee/coffee breaks but will be amazed at how exhausting it is standing there all day. (there was a 'body for hire' room in the complex)

And don't be surprised thinking; "Do all these people have a surf shop?!"  ...or did they wander over from the 'How to make a gazillion in real estate.' in another room.  You almost need to hire a shill to come around about every half hour to loudly talk about a board/foil/etc. in the middle of the aisle, so the people with bags full of c'hit wandering around think there's something worth looking at here - not that there is not - but they get numb also.

All the best - you'll need a vacation when it is over.  'Maybe Hawaii?!   Jim

Surfcowboy, I like the 360 camera idea!
Jim- yes tradeshows are exhausting, luckily I found someone to help me with the booth, Fisher Grant a local Florida SUP surf ripper who is planning to move to Oahu and live with Mo Freitas.   So hopefully I will be able to walk around a bit and also shoot some video/ interviews.
Dwight, it would be great to meet you, please stop by the booth and introduce yourself.

Robert, after seeing the Insta360x and GoPro Max I think 360 cameras will revolutionize self shooting. The ability to frame a shot and pan later during the edit should be a game changer. It’s too hard to worry about shooting b roll and what shot to choose while you’re shooting and talking.

Good luck at the show!

Will do.

We have met before. Jacky and I had lunch with you, Todd Bradley, and Dave Parmenter at the Canoe Club back at the beginning of SUP.

Thanks, Robert...   A little quick on the pan, but it is an interesting place.  I saw a brand around the corner from you that appeared as new inventory at a pawn shop near me .. I wish that lady luck with a printed magazine in this Instagram age. I hope it worked out for you.  I found standing within an 8x8 space for days - really draining.

Jim, yes standing indoors without sunlight for 9 hours three days in a row is really draining.  Luckily, I had Fisher Grant to keep me company and I was able to walk the show as well.  It was pretty busy so the days passed pretty quickly as we were talking to people most of the day.  The Balance Surfer was a hit and we did write some orders and had lots of interest, so I would say the show was a success.
