I liked the "Boost" mode the best.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

Pretty cool how they can take that level of movement and make it clear and smooth!

Yeah, I haven’t really thought of upgrading til this new gen. It’s truly crazy.

I’m still rocking a Hero 2. Might be time  🤣

I have a few days in with the hero 8 now and the stabilization is very impressive.  Drone Gimbal impressive.

Even on "High" it is really good.  "Boost" is incredible but it is not available in all resolutions because it uses outside pixels for image adjustment.  This isn't an issue for me because I don't really enjoy super wide angle self shots (or self-shot video at all).  For  away facing video this camera is incredible.  Not only does Boost work but you also have easy access to modes that do away with that typical fisheye go pro look and offer linear undistorted video.  The menu system is really top notch now as well so you can easily see which stabilization modes are available in which resolutions.  I hadn't owned a GoPro in quite a few generations but this one got my attention and it is really well done.

For somebody like myself who almost pulled the trigger last night on the Hero 7 black for 329.00 only because my friend has one and he loves it, says its pretty simple to use. Now the 8 is out which is 399.00 again I'm a total newbie with go pro, which one should I buy?

There are deals online all over for discounted 8’s. It’s a quantum leap.

Best I could find is 399.00 comes with a few extras, same package was 349.00 at black Friday and Christmas from Best Buys. The 7 black is 329.00 with no extras.

That is really cool.  Somewhat related, but anyone have any opinion on what the best camera is for shooting away from you?  I don't have much interest in shots of me out on my board, but I love getting footage of dolphins, whales, etc.  My one issue with GoPros is how close I need to get for good footage--anything further than 20-30ft away is pretty hard to pick up in much detail.

Any other cameras out there or ways to monkey with the GoPro to get things more clear?

BTW--here's a good deal on the Hero 8:  $349

Since they retired GoPro Studio, what software are folks using other than Quick?

I've looked for the same thing over the years, but haven't bought one yet. I have a Canon PowerShot A590 IS in a cheap waterproof bag. I've got some great shots from it, but It's a pain to operate in the bag. The zoom is near impossible to adjust in the bag. The bags stay water tight, but I've never had it more than a few feet underwater. One of the WaveSki guys at SanO has a small waterproof point and shoot that he has mounted on a handle / pistol grip. He wears a fishing / kayak vest and just slides the grip down into a pocket so the camera is mounted like a GoPro chest mount. He can quickly pull it out for handheld shots on just film while it's in the pocket. The spec's and reviews are pretty good on this Nikon

I tried Quick and I hated it. It might be good for people who know nothing about editing and don't want to learn. Almost all the editing programs are the similar in format. I've used probably 4 or 5 now, and most including Adobe Premiere Pro took me about a hour to get use to. I haven't even scratched the surface with Premiere Pro, but I've done just about everything on GoPro Studio. I've used imovie a bunch of times years ago and it's easy. If you have Windows 10 the basic Video Editor gets the job done. It lacks smooth transitions and fades, but you can add music, trim, edit, add titles, etc.. with it and it's quick and efficient. If you want GoPro Studio which still works great, I can drop box it to you. Just pm me.
