Wow.... they are finally all gone  :-\
First time I haven't been able to find one, still in stock.

Here's a lightly used one from B&H (where I buy all my camera gear)

Catch is.... it costs more used than I use to pay for new ones.

I've had no problems with the size or weight of a regular sized GoPro while surfing with any of the mounts. Paddle shaft, board mount, Creek Hat, or Chest mount. Getting rolled, diving in they usually stay focused on spot. Sometimes I don't tighten the mounting screw enough and the camera will move a little. I imagine a swing weight might be an issue when foiling, but I'm sure you could get used to it. My Hero 5 Black works great.
It's not overhead to me!

The Hero5 is no housing. Would imagine it's a better feel on paddle mount. Paddle mount is my fav pov with an older GP. Those new 360 degree view povs are super sweet looking.

Difference between the Session5 and my Hero3 Silver is way noticeable on paddle mount. Alot more swing weight with the Hero3. Both still function real well although I haven't used them in a while now.

Better not lose my Session! Lost my second one last winter (RMA from my orig Session5) on a botched late drop on a NICE wave! Replaced it right away so I'm on my third one now.

Looks like they're all out at B & H!

Bunch of em on eBay.

GL locating one, Beasho. Every surfer should own a GoPro.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Someone suggested carrying a camera while surfing at all times.  The idea being that sometimes conditions are just perfect, a whale swims by, toothy fish . . . why not have a camera just in case.

So I grabbed for an old waterproof first generation Minolta then realized I had several old GoPros lying around why not just use one of those.  One thing led to another and I have captured some pretty cool stills from video over the years.   The Session 5 has the best combination of form factor and image quality that I have found.  Although I may have to step up to a Hero 8.

Love the Spider Monkey over my shoulder.

As you can see I only surf in one spot on the West coast.  But its a good one.

And catching moments like these is pretty priceless.

My daughter freaking out on the edge of Mavericks.  It is much scarier the first time you watch the ocean surge in a very un-natural way.  Water is NOT supposed to stand up like that.

I have some great stills from my Creek/ Summer Trucker Hat non-surfing mount, just hiking with my family.

Here is me with my paddle mounted Hero 5 Black. The higher you mount it on the shaft, the better the swing weight. Actually the little added weight doesn't bother me at all. Plus I can hinge it straight out to film others with no shaft in sight.

Curious … what video recording settings do you experienced users recommend for recording surf sessions? i.e. what resolution, fps, continuous recording, loop recording, etc seem to work best for you for image quality, battery life, ease of use ?

I use 1080p at 30 FPS
I set my sessions5 to "SuperView"
That must be done on the phone APP because it isn't available in scroll menu, as far as I know.
What this does is let you see the board, lip and face plus shoulder.... for good look at the action. (pics)

The Phone APP also lets you set the mount to the best view, because you can preview what it is shooting at.

I tap the single button on the top of my Sessions, as a wave is coming, then tap again as the ride ends.
3 beeps means it is recording
5 beeps means the recording has stopped

My Sessions5 and I are in sync... it dies about the same time that I run out of gas  ;D

My video shows how I set it up and what it sees

My Session 5 finally died too, the battery just slowly deteriorates, it would last for a hour, then 30 min, then it just doesn't start up at all. I tried hard resets, etc. sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't.

So.....I took advantage of GoPro's trade in program ($100 off) combined with an Amex offer ($60 off) and got the Gopro 8 for $240, not a horrible deal.
