This year for 8 months, walk across the street, down along the jetty and then paddle to best surf
within mile or so. I have been doing this for 4 years. Have reservation for next year already.
Office is around mile and half to surf spot. Can see out front door the harbor entrance.
Home is three or four miles. Depends on which beach.

I surf so much more by having trailer parked at beach over half of year as compared to
surfing from home or office. Some times I get more than one session. Sometimes the
wind shifts from south to north and being on beach I am on it, when at home I would have
missed chance.

Price to keep trailer on beach is well worth it. How much is extra opportunity to
surf worth?

39 miles to Westport WA. There are 3 well known breaks there and I usually hit one of those. Can leave the house and be walking into the break in about 50 minutes. If I have my girls with me it is usually about 1.5 hours. Turn around for forgot booties, Starbucks, bathroom, etc.
Make paddleboarding great again!

I am lucky. Tofino.  5-25 minutes by bike to four local beaches. 30-45 minutes by car to the next three beaches further down the road. I surf them all but mostly the local beaches.

I’m 5 minutes from the beach, but it takes me 15 minutes to get into all of my winter gear.  And depending upon how chilled I get, it sometimes takes me 20+ minutes to get out of it.

Does anybody else have a wetsuit-to-drive ratio of more than 3:1?  These guys probably averaged about 20:1, but that’s a special case:

20 minutes to my favorite surf spot. It's also the closest.

I drive to the beach in my wetsuit and take it off in the shower when I get home. That makes it very easy.

I'm not driving much anymore so if I do it's very local. But good surf is rare here inside the bay. 1.5 miles to the closest, 2.2 to the one with more exposure and more frequent and sometimes better surf.

When I lived in RI, it was 10 minutes or less, perfect.  Now that I'm in San Diego, it's 20 minutes there and 30 min back ... and I'm unhappy about it, though I know I shouldn't be.  But it did get me to wondering -- how long does it take the folks here to get to their go-to surf spot?
Born and raised in SD, lived there my first 21 years.  During the beginning of my surfing years 1964, we lived in Del Cerro, across from SD State College (or whatever they call it now), we could make it to OB in 25 minutes flat, feet on the sand.  Then I moved to PB by myself, 5 minutes to Law St. surf spot, life was good.  Then I moved up to SLO county, the water has always been only 5 minutes away, Pismo then Cambria, life is even better, never crowded.
It takes a quiver to do that.

I live a couple of miles from some of the best surf breaks in the country.  When I first moved to Encinitas it took me about 10 minutes by car and could ride my bike safely to some of the  best spots.  Over the last 20 years Carlsbad and San Marcos permitted massive development and funneled the resulting commuter car traffic into Encinitas. No longer safe to ride to the beach.   If I leave my house before 6:00 AM I can get to the beach pretty quick, but now there is construction blockades to cross major parts of I-5 things slow down.  That 10 minute drive to the closest break has turned into 30 minutes later than 6:00 AM.  My favorite spot could take 45 minutes if you left at 9:00 AM.  I acutally end up surfing in Lajolla area a lot because it was close to my office and I know the breaks and other surfers.  That takes about 45 minutes one way, using back roads to get around I-5 traffic.  So I can surf 20 miles away from house just as fast as someplace 5 miles away.  The Joy of California Traffic.  At least I don't live in LA.

30 seconds to flatwater (granted it's a few hours within high tide)

10 minutes for surf, 12 for kiting. No issues with parking, very rarely issues with traffic - generally in the peak summer months for kiting, surf is typically so early in the AM we beat everyone else out.

SC may not have the best waves, but considering cost of living, quality of life, kiteable days, etc. it's hard to beat.

it was 2 min walk to my launch spot and 5 -10 min paddle to my secret PB spot. 5 min drive to a couple of prone surfing spots
Now it's 4 min walk but it's very protected and I dont see any surf spots around. Probably would need to drive around, but it would be 5-10 min; haven't had a chance - settling down after the move.

2.5 hours to the beach, but I am really not much of a surfer. I do some messing around in the surf and I fish nearshore, so I made that trip, often both ways in the same day, about a dozen times this year. 2 hours to inshore; going tomorrow. Half hour to lakes big enough to paddle several miles without doing laps.
