Prone on a SUP foilboard
« on: November 12, 2019, 07:55:58 AM »
Have any of you played around prone in super small waves on your SUP foilboards and a huge foil?  It seems like you could pick up ripples with a normal 6'ish SUP foilboard.  The speed feels on par with a 10 foot log longboard.

I'm not positive, but I do think I can paddle my SUP foilboard faster with the paddle than prone.  I can get into waves earlier and easier than even the best longboard riders around me.  So I can't see why one would want to do this - the advantage of prone is riding a tiny little board and the disadvantage appears to be that it is much harder to catch waves early.  At least that's been my experience going out for just a few days prone foiling (or prone not-catching-waves more like)

Yes all summer I was the guy from California foiling at one of the most crowded points in Rhode Island. Perfect 2 ft lefts on my 6’ 6” easy foiler.   100% alone on weekdays and weekends.

Maliko 200 and it was a blast.  Prone is ridiculous.  You can catch nothing paddling standing up.  If it had been 4 ft there would have been 80 guys but NO.  I was solo.  No one gets it. ( other than Paul Murray).

Beasho,

I am not sure that I understand.  Are you saying that you were proning your easy foiler?

Sorry.  I did try prone but couldn't catch waves as well as standing.

Since I have progressed this fall to a 6' SUP Foil Board I have learned that the WHOLE benefit of a short board is turning and pumping.  But this comes at a cost of NOT being able to catch waves as well.

The Prone guys have a huge advantage Turning and Pumping but CAN NOT catch

1) As small waves as we can standing with added pull from footstraps
2) As big waves as we can with SUP Foil Board

The sweet spot for Prone is probably 2.5 ft to maybe 6 foot faces.
