Historic Fall Surf in the Northeast
« on: November 11, 2019, 09:07:23 PM »
Really super video of NJ/East coast surf. This is more like a documentary. As for the Fall, it really tested my abilities. Had some incredible days and a few where I should have stayed home. Having started surfing later in life this was really my first time in waves with the size and power that the fall brought. Definitely going through a little withdrawal from the challenges, the thrill of when it all comes together and the consistent waves. Watching this video really put the fall into perspective for me.

5/4's, hoods, boots, gloves and the loneliness  of winter surf ahead!

Overall, Southern NJ is SUP friendly. Ben mostly surfs the more rough and tumble breaks in the area that are really not the most Sup friendly. Every town has those areas and most of us just avoid them.

El Slammo is also known as The Wedge of the East Coast. I will occasionally walk over, I have yet to see a SUP and I won't be the first.

There is one Sup in the video see if you can find it!

Osprey, Always good to hear from you
Just thought I'd add some details
First BG is a great guy to be in the water with super fun! and an excellent surfer in the tube particularly.
As far as "El Slamo" it (real name Gas Chambers) has been ridden for decades and Jason and I have surfed it on SUPs several times. So feel free you won't be the first but you gotta get it at the right tide (happy to help you get on it this winter if you want).
Be prepared...It puts sand "where the sun don't shine so be ready.

Other wise most of that clip is filmed on the north end of AC (Crystal/Metro) these are my home breaks (yes saw the SUP in the vid) Not a lot of SUPers up here kinda daunting driving through the ghetto of AC, parking your car (there is always Parking up here) in the shadow of OCEAN Casino (second largest building in NJ) but there is LOTZ of good waves up here steeper and faster than most of SNJ. Plenty of room to SUP up here, and I know you got the board for it.
So let me know and we'll get a winter session up here in AC...Who knows we may run into BG
Talk to you soon

That looked like fun. We have a decent chance of an El Nino winter, which may bode well for surf this year. The last one (2015/16) about killed me. Surfline was stuck at 7 to 10 (Hawaiian) all winter. I spent as much time being plastered to the bottom as I did up and surfing. But jeez, what fun.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.
