Rail tape - where to buy an entire roll
« on: October 24, 2019, 10:56:39 AM »
I’d like to pick up a roll of rail tape. Prefer something of good quality and, hopefully, not too expensive.  ;D I use it a lot to tape over minor dings. Seem to be having a bad run of damage lately and my supply is running low.
Thanks!

If you're trying to protect rails then RSPro is the only thing I've found after a heck of a lot of testing over many years that actually works. I don't know of anyone who has tried it that doesn't agree with that. The only compaint people have is that it's expensive--and it's a bit difficult to apply. But it doesn't work well for dings. The best thing I've found by far for ding repair is aluminum tape--the kind you get at any hardware store. If you burnish it down with a credit card it never leaks, any tears or penetrations that might leak in the future are easily spotted, and it's fundamentally a permanent repair. I've used it in place of hot coat on larger repairs because it doesn't add any significant weight and is an absolute seal, while hotcoat can have pinholes. It's also the best material I've found for shims of any kind--fin, foil, etc.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

+1 on Rail Saver Pro. It will outlast the board and look good to the end. Not to mention protect the rails better than anything out there.

Helicopter tape is okay for covering dings but is not good for rail tape because it gets chewed up over time.

I will have to try Pono's aluminum tape idea sometime.
