Humberto...Dorian...or ...Lorenzo?
« on: October 03, 2019, 11:18:43 AM »
Taking votes for best of the swells...

I'm giving it to Lorenzo: cleanest/longest duration and least human damage....but of course I couldn't get as much of the others due to work/family stuff
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

I’d say all three had a standout day or two and yesterday’s Lorenzo swell was great, but Humberto was the biggest and best for me in Maine

I understand about the cold air/water, but are there any protected coves that allow paddling and/or surfing in the winter months up in Maine?

There are plenty of protected tributaries for paddling all over the state. For surf it would depend on the wind direction but there are some. The winter I spent here i waited for offshore wind and a sunny day .

Waves, waves, waves.  What a run we are on. Hum did not really send much but enjoyed a week it seemed from Dor, the last bit today. And Lorenzo will start coming in tomorrow. So far Dorian has the rights. Some standout days in size and conditions. But in the coming days Lorenzo could shine.

My best day paddling was Humberto 2 Fridays ago.  RI was really good.  Did get some windsurf and wind sup time with the first two storms as a bonus.

I am going Humberto here on the Seacoast of NH and Southern Maine. Two days of solid swell. Every cove was breaking. Easy to spread out.

Although the Lorenzo  swell brought a special guest to Maine in Evelyn of the Stand Up Journal so I will change my vote to lorenzo.

Southern NJ

Dorian tops my list for combination of size and light off shores.
Humberto next and I missed the morning of Lorenzo when it was best. Cross winds when I caught it. Only a short window for offshores. Heard it was much better further north in Monmouth county. So not the best analysis.

But you forgot JERRY!!! For sure it it was the best of the lot. I'm 70 mile south of this clip and my break was  getting this wave further outside. The best part was I was 1 block off the main peak and had it all to myself.

But in NJ we have had a nice run of it.

They all left gifts behind... with more size on the early storms.
The crowds seemed to be everywhere, but I always travel alone and managed to find several empty breaks

Personally, I had my best solo sessions with Lorenzo.... super stoked!!!

I gotta go with Osprey here in SNJ Dorian was my favorite Particularly because I got to spend a day chasing waves with my grown son Cheyne (he's a shortboard guy, and a sea captain so his/my schedule and good wave rarely meet) So I had to surf waves I usually pass on... but it was a great day I won't soon forget!

My vote is hands-down Humberto here on the north shore of Mass. Everything was perfect for 2 whole days: winds, period, swell, weather.
