Wedgies

Back in the day this was the kind of wave that would suck me into thinking I could handle it. Sand enema. I can't believe there are hardboards at the wedge. I used to get shit for having a sponge. Now I don't even see any bodysurfers, just spongers and shortboarders.

Thanks Bill for posting this. The commentary is priceless. Hard to believe there isn’t an ambulance lineup waiting to pick up the pieces.

People have indeed died there, and many more get banged up badly, but not as many as you'd think. I generally restricted myself to smaller days, but I did a few that looked something like that. There are worse days. Much. Once you're stupid enough to get out in the lineup you realize you have to get in. It's feasible to swim away from the break and exit in something less dramatic, but it's just not done. It's not easy to get out of the water once you've had your initial pounding. If you're in the wrong spot the water ripping back out takes your legs out from under you and you get a free rinse cycle.
