Yikes it's cold.
« on: October 01, 2019, 04:03:36 PM »
Fall again in Hood River. Both mountains are white again, and driving back from a sad attempt at wingfoiling in Stevenson I saw snow on the upper hills in the Gorge. Time for Fritz to migrate into the shop. I have some time to work on it now that the wind is so iffy and it's wetsuit weather. Once again the Spad prepares to land on the solar panels. I didn't get that much done on Fritz this year. Too much time in the water. Oh, well, there's worse ways to piss away your time. Fritz looks kinda small, like an overgrown van when it's outside. But when it's inside...

Off to Maui I guess? This time with a pile of wings. Ready for that Maliko wing foil run?
It's not overhead to me!

Still mid 80*'s-90* in South Carolina 8).  Ocean water is currently a cool 83*.  Lived in HR for many years, great place but could no longer handle the short summers.

Yessir. Sort of. I'll get there though, pretty quick I hope. Lots of folks pushing me there, the good kind of pushing. Like "we're all going, come on!"

Mmac--short but sweet, and then I go to Maui. I know that doesn't work for everyone, but Hood River gets pretty empty in the winter except for the skiers/snowboarders. I love Hood River, if I had to stick in just one place I'd put up with the winter to get the spring/summer/Fall.

Bill quit your whining! I arrived in Calgary on Saturday and we very soon had 18 inches of snow on the ground. Starting to melt now but still a bit of a shock flying in from Vancouver and then having to drive around on these snow covered streets for two hours every day. Isn’t global weirding wonderful!

Yes Canada.......but September. WTfrick....this was as severe as any winter storm in the last few years. My brother and his wife took 8 hours on Sunday to drive to Fernie which is usually a two hour drive even in winter, and when they got to Fernie a local powder skiing destination ......not a flake of snow. Very weird weather.

Cheers

Where I live in deep southeast Texas, it's been hot since June 1st. This is when the heat indexes have been triple digits for at least 105 days (or more). Yesterday, Oct 1st at my home, it was 92 degrees F, combined with the high dewpoint and high humidity, the heat index was 102 degrees F.

This morning's (Wednesday) low temperature is 72 degrees F. Today, Wednesday, is going to be another repeat performance with a forecast high of 93 degrees F with a heat index of 103 degrees F.

Last month, September, we had only 5 days where the heat index didn't reach triple digits and that was only because of the tropical disturbance named, Imelda which came ashore near Freeport, Texas. Beach water temperature at Surfside, Texas as I type this post, is 83 degrees F with the air temperature of 83 degrees F.

Another bad thing about our summer heat wave with high heat index temperatures between 100-113 degrees F, with a dome of high pressure sitting on top of use for almost 120 days (and still counting), it has suppressed the wind and since our waves are wind generated, there hasn't really been any waves to surf. This is why I have done a lot of lake flat water paddling.

But relief is on the way. We are going to get a cold front arriving next  Monday, Oct 7th, where it drop the daytime temperature to around 86 degrees F with a Tuesday morning low of 63 degrees F.

Can't blame Bill if he's heading back to Maui. It's warm and windy here today and surf too!

65 and sunny out east today.  West 16-20 forecast by noon.  Very stoked with that.  Temps back in the low 70's for 2 more days of westerlies and then back to easterlies.  Gotta love the fall!
