Are these wings durable?
« on: September 23, 2019, 03:04:45 PM »
Just unpacked my new Duotone 4 m wing and my first impression is. Wow! This thing is so light and flimsy. Compared to my Ezzy windsurf sails it seems like a pool toy.  I dont know anything about kiting or wing foils, but the materials are similar. Are these wings durable? Once I inflated it it felt like it could easily pop with the right crash. But I imagine the kites crash time after time from lofty highs and high speed, so maybe this isnt the case.  I hope not as there are no dealers around me. Do i need to buy a lot of patches etc?  Thanks as always for your advice

Don't worry, Carib...  Light is exactly what you want.  If you were flying around cactus or wire fences, then something else.  I kited for 13yrs and crashed the hell out of a bunch of kites and only had problems with trees and beach debris.  Go play. These are fun.

Hey Jim, thanks for the reply and confirmation on these wings.  Wing foils are relatively new, but seeing as most are made with same materials as kites and there is years of kiting history, that makes me feel a little more confident.

Despite Admin's comments about my 4M Duotone looking like a hobo's hanky, I've found the wings to be very tough. I'm not particularly graceful getting in and out of the water, so they have to be. The 4M is the only one I've damaged, and that was from the stabilizer going through the canopy. Not much to complain about there--it's like dropping it on a knife.
