Help - RRD LongSup
« on: September 23, 2019, 01:21:09 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm thinking about the RRD Longsup V1 9'4" .
I'm currently surfing a unicorn board (for me) 9'0" x 27" x 4", 120L SINGLE FIN from 2010... and I love it so much, I found it second hand on a bargain...

I would like to know especially regarding the durability of RRD an if possible I hope to find someone how surf it to share his opinion.

In addition the 2nd board which I'm also reflecting on is the Fanatic Stylemaster 9'0 or 10'.
The 10' is the last on my list because of storage issues (too big) but a friend told me that the 10 is much much better then the 9... so I'm confused.

Hope to hear your thoughts...

Mosh...  We do not see a lot of RRD in the States. Even when I kited in the early 2000s, Roberto's products never had much distribution. The few boards I seen have listed, maybe 3 years ago, had 'on sale' status.  Here is at least a review.

https://www.supboardermag.com/equipment_guide/rrd-longsup-94/

Also, check the Seabreeze SUP forum - there's is more information about the Stylemaster there and more about the competitors.  Cheers.

Thanks, I've also posted there and in addition email supboarder...

I really like this board based on reviews but unfortunately I will not be able to test it before ordering since there are no demo boards in my country...

Thanks!

Mosheva,

I probably shouldn't do this on a public forum but I've had a bunch of experience with RRD windsurf boards Delam (within a week) torn out deckboxes, and various other issues RRD does not have good customer service EVERY warranty I've ever sent them was ignored/then denied.

Now to be fair NOT EVERY RRD gets warrantied but they do have more than there share and they don't handle them well(at all)

now Fanatic the last warranty I've had was back when CREEK (Rik Weeks) got one of the first ledge handles and it leaked.
They replaced the board changed their production procedure and that was YEARS AGO and I sell a couple hundred Fanatic SUP and 2/3 of that again in Windsurfers and I'm not including Foilboard in either.
All in all Fanatics hold together.

As far as Style Master's the 10Ft in popular mostly for just the little extra glide in micro tiny surf. However all the team riders prefer the 9Ft as it is quicker rail to rail and generates speed faster while still nose ridding great.
Price wise they are all the same price wise and If you would like to deal with us we offer (have for years) Significant "ZONER DEALS"

Let me know if I can be any further help

Thanks so much !! Our local dealer said just the opposite LOL ... He said that they do take care in case of any issues... And to be fair we haven't talked at all regarding other brands... He's only import RRD.

I'm reading your post but I've already ordered the RRD... So I guess that I will hope for the best...

Your feedback is much appreciated

Thanks but you haven't confused me , the alert regarding manufacturing issues like leaking handles or delamination is very important to know.

I once had a Naish which consider to be a very strong builds but my SUP got dings each time I've surfed.. so I guess every brand has it ups and downs... Just hope the the current production is better the the one that you handle with...

Can you say which years was it?

I snapped an RRD twin fin in half.
Same disclaimer as others.... trying to be fair

After looking at the two halves of the board, (2012)  I thought the layup could have been better,   and it definitely was a delam first then a  snap

Have owned 20+ (30?idk)  windsurfers different brands...and that was a first
I liked the shape, finish and ride....

Would I buy a sup I wanted from RRD?  Probably, as the layup is likely different, hopefully resolved and I'm a sucker for board porn...but it would have to be a distinctly different board than others
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

Thanks for the information, I do hope that they have changed the build quality for the good it's been a while since 2012 :)

My Naish Nalu is from 2010 and it's concrete solid hence its heavy weight...

I've buckled a Starboard WP 8'2 and found stapler pins that the manufacturer used to hold the fiberglass in place..

Our local Sunova dealer did told me regarding delamination issues with some boards and regarding the lack of customer service from their hand... So I guess it all comes to the customer service from the manufacturer side...

Our local Starboard dealer has the best customer service and they will go above and beyond to keep you happy but for the price of a Starboard I can get 2 RRD's...

Our local RRD dealer seems to be honest man and I hope that in any case of an issue he will stand behind his words...

I really hope that it will be as solid as I read on reviews (the few of them I've found) and really hope that I've made the right choice...

BTW where are RRD manufacturing? Cobra?

I think they are made in southern Europe??

But they very well could be made at Cobra.

Just a quick note COBRA is a factory that produces a myriad of constructions The quality of construction relies on 3 basic things
1) The design specification of the construction itself
2) The amount of time allocated to production conformity to above specs (Req. qualified personnel onsite) With ability & responsibility to make it right
3) ONSITE QC (Quality Control)

These things add a lot of cost to each board (let's face it the total units produced are pretty small as compared to other types of production) So if a board cost twice as much as another board here is a BIG part of the reason (number of people that touch it Sunova had this beat but went back to the old distributor model) and the price a product will bear in the market. These last 2 are points for another time.

Good Luck on your new board
