Front strap is fine, as I use it to help me lift/pump the smaller board (6'x29"x4.75") on takeoffs (that I sometimes do twice they're so fun :D)....

...but I don't use a rear one, because instead of moving my front foot fore and aft depending on wave size like Beasho does...I move my rear foot that way instead (forward when it gets big and steep to get more weight forward, and back when I want to fly, pump, or leverage the board up more easily).

I also move my rear foot side-to-side (like I do surfing) depending on which way I'm going to be going while setting up a turn, and another reason I don't/can't run a rear strap. But I'm also on a different foil with the mast between my feet, and not underneath my rear one that makes some of these things a little different than someone on a standard straight mast foil....

Front foot strap is a must for the first 2 seconds on a wave. Beasho has me thinking I need to put one on the back next. That being said, I wouldn't want to learn with straps.

On nastier takeoffs, or big takeoffs, I will use this strategy of resting back foot in front of rear strap.

I have flown for 100's of yards or entire waves like this if they are big.  I learned the trick from COLAS.

It is almost impossible to breach in this position.

Back to flying short SUPs

Here is another quick overview of 6' with GL210 wing.  Takeoff 4' to 5' then faded and re-built on the inside 2-3.

Can you tell us about the difference between the gl210 compare to the iwa and what's your weight Beasho?

Weight - 185 (dry)

The GL210 has slightly LESS lift than the Maliko 200.  I say SLIGHTLY.  It has much more lift, and carry than the IWA.

At this point I would NOT consider going to the IWA because the GL210 is CLEARLY FASTER and MORE EFFICIENT. This means that you can fly like in the video but also get in early and, I AM HOPEFUL, keep up with faster moving swell as the waves get bigger.  I had someone ask me if the "foil had a motor?"  I thought he was joking and he said "I just saw you takeoff on nothing and fly so fast I was sure that you had a motor."

Today was a good test in slightly bigger conditions.  There were 5 to 7.5+ foot faces.  Haley was on the IWA (weighs 240) and Jeff Clark on a relatively small wing.  I definitely got thrown on a few takeoffs but no more than they did and my wing was MUCH larger.  I was also on a smaller, lighter board and I am also lighter than they are.  If I were on my 7' 4" with heavy nose it would have been a whole different ballgame.  That would be my Big-Wave sled option.  Put on a small tail and this wing will handle bigger conditions.

I’m using a King’s 5’6” carbon SUP board and love it. I’m primarily on the river foiling standing waves and behind the boat. I use it on ocean as well and it’s awesome!!

Quick clip from Clay.  Thank you Clay!  ;D

This was the 1st week on the GL210 with Short SUP.  I was still flying with the Red Kai Tail.

Blue GL Narrow much faster and turnier.  Getting better.

You were going really fast, I was shocked at how much speed you carried in those turns, radical.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Play around with this calculator.  It really shows how very small changes in nose weight have a massive effect.

Hey Beasho,
So funny you mention this.  I have been on my 6 ft Fugly for a year now and yes, it took some time to get used to it.  Once up and flying it is my preferred board.  Having said this, I just spent the past weekend riding some hurricane swell in Maine with my 7'2" board akin to the board I saw you on this summer.  Boy, what a difference.  So much easier to get on waves compared to the 6 footer.  Just got me re-thinking this whole short board craze.  I just may have to make a 6'8" to 7' board to keep me happy with everything.  Cheers!
