BIG wings...7m
« on: September 09, 2019, 04:09:13 PM »
First day on a 7m wing. Wind reading on the beach 12-13 mph. IWindsurf sensor saying 10-15 mph...not knots!

7m is NOT too big. It was freaking awesome. This is your warning manufacturers...start making bigger wings or be left behind.

Agree 100% DW as longtime kiter/foiler/surfer seems all the big kite companies missed the mark on the sizing of the wings as I waited for 3months for my 4m wing which is fine when itís 20-30mph with my 225lbs,bigger sized wings couldnít come fast enough for me, hey if you live on Maui the 4m just fine, but really a 6-7m wing is definitely needed asap, not sure but looks like you have the 7m gong wing which Ive been eyeing but not sure if they ship to west coast USA, gotta hand to gong crew for thinking outside the box waay before the big kite companies bravo👏

if they ship to west coast USA, Ö.they do. My Gong 7 should arrive any day.:)

My Sling 4.2 and Gong 7 might be all I need for conditions here.

The fin helps to paddle straight. Needed on this 5í8. Not needed on the 5í11 or 6í4.

Hi Dwight ,
What's the measurement of the Wingspan at the 7m2 Gong?

Donít know, but itís not too wide. Easy to handle on a foil.

You have to applaud the crazy French Gongers.

They were forced to adapt to regular-man conditions outside of Hawaii and the Gorge.  Similar to windsurfing's evolution it all started in those places but then grew outside in lighter air.

Here is a great example of foiling in light wind:

Lookin good Dwight,

Cant wait to get mine in.  I wish I would have had them for after the storm. Couple of days of great conditions for playing with them.

Love the board!

just asking, I think Wingspan size is important   to short guys like me regarding tip drag and handling.

It absolutely is important, dragging the wingtip is occasionally recoverable, but usually, it flips the wing over. I'd guess the Gong wing is good for that, the wing is about as low aspect as you could get. I think they designed them from the start to make big ones. Those long tip spars give a lot of area without adding length, but I suspect they'd spill wind quickly, which is a feature, not a bug, in light wind with gusts. I'll probably pick up one of their biggest wings, which I suspect will be a 9 since we've already seen one though the website doesn't list it.

Patrice has always made everything look easy. I remember many years ago trying to copy his freestyle moves on a SUP. No dice.

I think a first careful formula for relaxed winging on foil could be: shoulder height + ca.20 cm must be greater or even than half Wingspan of the wing
