Back Swell in Maine
« on: August 28, 2019, 05:04:06 PM »
Baby Huey delivered a nice surprise in Maine on a back swell from the low that went to Nova Scotia.

Jarvis killed it on one of his Foote customs, and I caught a couple of bombs on my SMIK 8'4" HipTwin. I also learned to swim.

Pleasantly surprised that the small SMIK was working for me..

It wasn't bad in NH either.   8)

Please explain what Baby Huey means. I know he's a comic book character, but what does that have to do with swells?

Glad you scored up north boys.... I was cleared by my eye surgeon today. Back in the saddle tomorrow  ;D ;D ;D

Mr Big where were you? I saw Ian for a sec out in the lineup in The corner at Long Sands. I surfed 4 hrs of really good, clean surf in the morning. Then surfed my town break at low tide another 2 hrs that afternoon    A great day!
Sorry I missed you and wish I knew you were somewhere in the lineup

I Googled Baby Huey and even added the words surfing, swell and Australia, and got nothing but the cartoon character and the singer.

Apparently it's not that widely recognized as a surf term.   ::)

Baby Huey Surf God should get you a long article in the Aussie Tracks mag..

Or try another search engine. Google is NOT anything I would use to do serious research on anything. Those who PAY are first in line...

Don, Ian told me he saw you and Moran closer to the Nubble end.

After ignoring Gerry Lopez and not kicking out early. I went down there to get back out. Was looking for an antique Hobie. Saw some familiar faces. Next time Brah!

Apparently....... except every hardcore surfer in the 60's lived by Huey  :)

praying to Huey or sacrificing boards to him in a  campfire was part of surf culture
Not being known or understood by the outside world was part of the mystique of surfing

It's just Huey, not Baby Huey.   ::)

When you Google "Huey surf" it omits all the cartoon and singer stuff and you get the accurate info on it.

The surf gods name is just Huey. There is no record of him being called Baby Huey, the gigantic and naïve duckling cartoon character. Cleveland must have added that.    :P

Mr. Big, I am about to retire my Hobie Raw..amazing surf SUP which has brought me years of fun and 1000s of waves.  I have a new custom L41 Surfcraft on order and it should be here in a week or so.
a million thanks for trading that board in to Cinnamon Rainbows years ago..your loss was my gain  ;D

Let me know next time you are heading up this way as I'd love to meet you and have a surf with you.

That was a long time ago Don!

Couldn't stand on it for a second!

Returned it for an 8'10" that I couldn't stand on either. Swapped that with Rick for the Graf Spee
10'6". Too funny.

Would have loved to see you, but you must have
had your cloaking device activated!

Saw Jeff as well. We will definitely connect before you go Troppo mate!
