Why Wings?
« on: August 27, 2019, 09:53:37 PM »
For anyone wanting to actually understand why I have my skivvies in such a knot about Wing Foiling--here's your answer. This is what I want to do. And I will.

Yes, Rod went the same distance without a wing. Look at me, look at Rod. We're done here.

Pono- Do you know what kind of board Mark has in that video? Looks like a custom? Gorge made? Looks relatively small for a foil SUP. I wonder if that's his normal foil SUP for downwind and surfing or if it's smaller made specifically for the wing....

I don't think it's custom. That's a familiar looking color scheme. Flying Dutchman? I'll ask him next time I see him.

Here is the text from Facebook,

A Wingman on the Viento Run- Mark Ribkoff and I were both foiling, he was on the Axis 900 and I was on the Axis 1000 Wing with 90cm mast. I had a KeNula paddle and he was on the F-One Swing 2.8. We both were on Flying Dutchman boards, his is only 5'6"x25" & 79 liter and mine is 5'8"x28" and 105 liters. The Gorge has been delivering on wind lately.

I'll be stoked to get ahold of the 2.8 Swing!  That is going to be a key size for the Swing wings.  I suppose you may always want some extra volume for downwinders in case the wind quits at an inopportune location but I imagine that these board sizes will seem big (for the wing) for general use in a short while.

Of course it is, I should have known. These things get passed around in an amazingly small group, probably 40 people at max.

I just got back from my annual SUP trip to the secret windsurfing/kiting spot in Baja. There was one wingthing foil surfer there. Wing surfing is the perfect thing to do when it's too windy to surf but not windy enough to kite. Those conditions happen all the time and the guy would be out there by himself for hours catching wave after wave after wave.

probably the best, most inspiring wing vid I have seen yet. And I've only seen 10,000. My Slingwing arrives today!!! I am excited to be a kook. Now if I can just figure out how to get to Namotu. I do have Maui next month. Stööööökkked!!
I have a retrofitted 8'10" Hokua to start on and an Infinity 84. Hoping to be able to use my 3'6" Dwarfcraft Mini someday. I have been practicing the no hands, strapless water start with my kite. Send It!

I like seeing the progression of the wings and this captures what is all about despite the promo and all the bs yarn you see. He just rides and enjoys the moment.
