I have the UV88 and Black Project Surge.

Black Project is much lighter.

UV88 seems to create more board speed for me.

That’s helpful. Is the catch of the Surge noticeably less than the UV? And what size blade and type of shaft do you have for your Surge?

My Surge is the 82 blade with premium carbon shaft. It’s less catch, and my cadence is faster. The slower cadence with the UV-88 still makes me faster. I’m not using a speed measurement device. Just going by me catching waves easier and feeling more speed.

I'm still trying to get used to paddling a faster cadence with my Hydro 83.  I find I'm overpowering it, making lot's of tell-tale noise.

KP, are you looking for a flat water paddle or surf?  In the BP line, the Hydro is definitly more geared toward flat water.

Currently using 86 qb so either the 88uv or 83 hydro would suit. mainly for racing . Did find 91 vdrive too much

had the hydro 88 & 83 nice and light paddle but quickblade is next level from handle, shaft to blade and I can't wait to try the new UV blade.
