Obviously photoshopped
« on: August 16, 2019, 09:50:53 PM »
Dan Taylor managed to get a shot of me up on my foil and flying, looking almost comfortable. He must have a quick trigger finger.

Today was insane. OK in the early morning, but then gusty with a lot of lulls around noon. I took a break to get some lunch and came back to nuke city. Probably 35 gusting to 40. That was a guess but I just looked at the wind graph and it was 32 gusting to 45. My pump seems to have walked away, but I had my 4M inflated and ready to go, so I went on that. Generally, I don't think harnesses are a necessity for wing foiling, but it would have been good this afternoon. My arms are now quite a bit longer. I only did three or four passes across the river, but they were nutty. It's surprisingly easy to handle heavy wind on a port tack going upwind. the foil stays up, it seems fairly easy to spill wind when a nuclear gust hits me. But on the starboard tack, especially if I'm up on the foil, I lose control easily and wind up going downwind, which is challenging. I need to let the wing just swing out in front of me, but it's hard to remember that when the little safety dude is screaming in my ear.

Looking good Bill. Good you got some wind, Maui is somewhat quiet this time. Is duotone wing a way to go? I am considering putting down a deposit for 5m with second wind on Maui.
Addicted to foiling at the moment.

It's fine as long as you don't get MY 5M. Kidding aside, yeah, I like it the best of the wings I've tried. The F-One is a close second, but I don't like the floppy handles--the boom is a big improvement over an inflated strut.

I see a carbon boom. It’s tempting to make one now that I’ve got my adjustable outhaul working.

Looking good PB! Our low wind environment here made me pull the trigger and order a 7 meter.
Watching all these windy videos makes me envious as heck.

Surfside, if you’re named for the Texas Surfside I’ll be keeping my eye on you.

I figure these wings could make the Gulf a playground for foils.

Yea, it's a KeNalu paddle shaft, works perfectly. The tapered shaft fits both the leading edge bit (larger) and the trailing edge. Mine is adjustable both by adding spacers and with a Sailwoeks outhaul but the single size one I built previously was quite a bit lighter. Light is good.

I assume you surf regular, so on starboard tack you’re on your switch side.

I. Have a 7m on the way also, same reasons.
Do you plan on using your wing while tanker foiling?
I'm thinking a trip to Galveston is in my furure. It's a long drive towing a boat but that tanker surfing has really peaked me and my boy's curiosity.
