That's forward loop practice!  This is an exercise.  When windsurfers are first learning to do forwards they ride on a reach out of the straps, push the boom forward and sheet in hard.  That alone will send you into a body loop.  You land on your back pretty hard.  I don't remember that being very helpful though :).  On a sailboard the forward loop is a very easy move that is very hard to get your mind to cooperate with.  At a certain point you just have to do it.  Half way is where the problems happen :).  He is jumping off the board here before he pulls the trigger.  Trying to get way clear from the foil I am sure!

Yes EASY!

I tell all the kids in the office 'Never use the word Easy it discredits the last 25 years of your education and experience.'

The same came be said about surfing Mavericks.  "It is a very easy move (takeoff) that is very hard to get your mind to cooperate with."

Hah!  I do think windsurfing as a whole is one of the harder watersports to learn.   It seems to take the longest.  You can turn a SUP around on the first day but how long to do a planing jibe on a sailboard?  I would think a couple of seasons for most.  Maybe it is faster now with better gear and modern instruction.  But, once someone can do a jibe and a chop hop they really can learn the forward.  In that sense it is easy.  Two motions that would already have been learned will get anyone around onto their bum.  Convincing your mind of that is the hard part.

I imagine there are a lot of those mind control moments at Mavericks.  The first being getting out of the car.  :)
