I saw a drowning on Surfline today
« on: August 08, 2019, 06:54:15 PM »
I was checking the  Long Sands Beach , Maine Surfline surf cam late this afternoon, and after a minute or two of watching the surf, I noticed someone on a rescue board paddling furiously through the surf. The camera kept switching angles so I had to wait a minute to see the view again and the next view I saw a group of people and a lifeguard bringing what looked like a lifeless body to shore.   Once on the beach I saw them frantically performing CPR and a large crowd gathered around as numerous people began running down to the scene to render help.  Within minutes police and EMT were there.  I couldn't believe what I was watching and felt sick to my stomach and could only pray. I turned it off eventually as it was heart wrenching.

I don't know if this poor person survived or not, but those who gave assistance were amazing.  I can't get these images out of my head and I have been praying that this person is ok.    I haven't seen anything in the news as yet.  So very sad.

Wow Don, that's gotta be a helpless feeling.
Very surreal and haunting, I would imagine..... sad thing to have to witness.

For sure Creek...I read this morning the 42 yr old man died. Really sad and all I could think about when surfing in York this morning. Guy went to the beach on a beautiful day and went for a swim and that was it.  Tragic

Caribsurf, in case the investigators have overlooked it, you might want to notify them about the Surfline video.

"York police Sgt. John Lizanecz said the drowning remains under investigation. Anyone who may have seen what happened is being encouraged to contact Detective Jamie Robie at 363-4444."

Bean I called the York Police Dept, and was amazed they were unaware that there are two surf cams at Long Sands Beach.  I gave them the Surfline link and explained that they can rewind the camera footage to try and see exactly what happened.  They were very appreciative and were going to check it out right away.

good suggestion.
