F-One Swing, Foils and Foilboards
« on: August 05, 2019, 03:39:02 AM »
Here is a great interview and some excellent footage of the founder of F-one talking about the sport.  His stoke for the sport is evident and it looks like they have some great looking products.  PS:  Go to 2:27 and tell me that doesn't look fun!

This guy is having a blast flatwater cruising on his Swing and what looks to be a corky little 4 footer.  Think about travelling with that kit.  It is almost carry on.  :)

Here is a great video from F-one talking about their upcoming gear and sizing for new riders.  Very impressed with these guys.  They have wing specific boards on the way.  Those foils look incredible.  Modular carbon mast also on the way.

Nice video. His comment about a carbon mast coming in a year.... I’ve head this before from other brands, but then it never comes.

If you listen to the Progression Project podcast today, they talk about masts. Zane spilled the beans on that topic. They can’t match the mast stiffness of aluminum with carbon just yet. So he rides aluminum surfing.

My comment...I met one manufacturer last year at Surf Expo that said they released a carbon option just to have one, but the weight came out the same as aluminum by the time they matched the stiffness.

I've seen the latest carbon mast from LP foils and it's very light. Talked to someone who rides it and have experience with both the new Go Foil and Naish systems and he was going on about how stiffer the LP carbon mast was compared to the Naish, specifically talked about the longer masts for downwind.

I wonder how long before other brands will catch up.
in progress...

The core design for the carbon masts I've seen is odd. They tend to have a core that they wrap with carbon to form the complete structure of leading and trailing edge. That makes for a torsionally weak structure. The aluminum masts all have a box section inside which gives them more rigidity. An idealized structure would be an internally cross-braced box with the leading and trailing edges added on-- non-structural. Like all modern airplane wings.

how stiffer the LP carbon mast was compared to the Naish

Thats easy
But how stiff is it compared to NP or Axis?

Thanks for sharing. I'm the admin of that FB page (and others). Arnaud (the guy on the video) is a real Portuguese kai Lenny. I remember when I started SUPing he was already ripping hard on small SUP boards, and he is also a great windsurfer and kiter. Since a few years he started foiling and has been paving the way here in Portugal.
He did a wingfoil with some windsurf and kite parts and was flying well. Now he has that new F-One wing.

This is well worth watching.  I dig the forward thinking that F-one has for Wingsurfing.  They talk low wind (these guys are foiling in under 10 Knots) waterstarts, harness use, windows, wing weight, board size and their upcoming wing specific board line (starting at 4 feet :) ).  The minimal design of that wing is very cool.  I definitely want to try that out.  I am only using two of the five handle positions on my wings and I never use the angle grips.

Watch the handle:
And the sizing, what about a 190 lbs intermediate?
No footstrap inserts?
