Great place to start. Thanks for the warning ::)
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Enjoy!

be kind to yourself... and others, there is a steep learning curve, but it eases up fairly quickly.

Lean forward, with pressure on your front foot, while catching your first waves.
The tendency is to fall off the back of the board, till you figure this out.

Play on the edges.... with no one near you, so you have a safe place to get the basics down.

ha ha, I remember my first day like it was yesterday..... so amazing and exciting!  Have a blast!

With your 10'4" x 32" @ 183 liters board, you should be able to surf a 1' wave in height. With tiny wave heights like that, I seriously doubt you will find any prone surfers on the water surfing on those wave height days. You should have the entire beach front to yourself to get used to your board on those tiny wave days.

I have. I know you’re just getting your surf sea legs, but that board will be awesome for you. It will catch pretty much everything, so you’ll get a lot of waves and it’s stable when on a wave, so you can experiment. It turns too. With a little attention.
Btw props to OEX, a cool little shop in Point Loma. Owner Eric basically pulled a new board for me to rent, and had a nice Black Project paddle.

Yes, got it as a longboard surfboard primarily though is not bad for cruising either.  Got the 10 4 for that reason.  I am 200 lbs - I paddle a mile to/from break across a bay.  Can't be beat for the price.
