I need a small wing ASAP
« on: July 15, 2020, 07:53:23 PM »
Used my Swing 3.5 today in winds averaging low 20s with gusts into the upper 20s (mph).  Great session with lots of swell riding but mostly maxed out on the 3.5.   I need something smaller for windier days.  There are no FOne 2.8s available for a while as far as I know.  I am attracted to the Cloud wings but the 3 is not available and I think the gap to the 2.2 is too large.  What to do?  Any other good options? We have some big winds coming up.  Definitely a first world problem. Thanks

A lot cheaper to drive out to Rowena, Celilo, or Maryhill where the wind may be lighter. All excellent launches too. Sailing any of the aforementioned spots ('cept Rowena maybe) will quickly make you realize the wind between Wells Island and the sandbar is the worst quality anywhere in the Gorge.

The port is threatening to shut down the waterfront altogether, we're going to have to spread out anyway.

There were a few port people looking around at the Event Center today. I kept hearing the words "unacceptable". I think we're headed for closure. I think they could trim the crowd a bit by making the parking lot open to yearly passes only (says the guy with the yearly pass) though there would be a lot of PDX people who think a hundred bucks for parking is a deal. That's like one day of parking in downtown Seattle. Today was kind of nutty. Heavy crowd for the weekend. I was having a fine time on my 4.2 with my 101 foil, which I have finally learned to turn. Thanks, Thatspec, for making me realize that it might just be me that's the problem. It was.

Phils, looking at the Cloud wings I think their 2.2 is going to feel a lot like a 3.0. It might be exactly the opposite problem--not a big enough step. As Thatspec says, either go a little East or get more comfortable feathering the wing over your head. It's a fun way to fly anyway--overpowered and feathering.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Phils,

Yes, I always think that new gear is a good thing but you definitely need a 2.8.  The week before you arrived was pretty much all 2.8 for me.  There is a big difference between overhead and feathering in the bigger gusts and getting pulled back so hard that it is tough to keep forward momentum :)
