See what mediocre wind does
« on: August 01, 2019, 06:38:20 PM »
I spent a silly amount of time today making this base for the deflector for Fritz. The deflector will continue the lines of the wing, which will stiffen the aluminum. It bolts to the side and center mounts and has a little curve to it not apparent in this foto. It was a bitch to fit, the curve is compound so I had to roll the panel lines, then wheel in the curves, then reroll the lines that got squashed by the English wheel. Lather, rinse, repeat--four times. But when I finally got it, the panels dropped onto the roof like a blanket. Good thing, I was getting ready to see how far I could throw them. I covered the areas I needed to rivet with some gooky roof seam tape, and then used sealed rivets. Should be leakproof.

That’s crazy man.

I have yet to tackle metal but I’m damn close to pulling the trigger on a mig welding course. My buddy found a metalworkers maker space close to here that’s dirt cheap.

But I’m not sure I’m that fancy. lol

I want to see that... Love the Art Deco feel.

Yup. Randy Grubb. My hero. The Decoliner is a much more ambitious project. Randy is a hell of a metalworker. I visited his shop in Southern Oregon a few years ago on the way back from racing at Sears Point.

Very tasty, Bill.  Good for you!  Well done.  It looks like a helluva solar platform too.

I have an old Winnebago and simply putting Maserati badging and some large Italian curse word on the side is about as far as I expect to take it on the exterior.

Fritz Lives!

I enjoy the updates. You are a glutton for projects, PB. Fun! Makes me want to "retire".

I'm setting up my mega solar/battery/inverter system in a 40' high vol container. No sense in burning up a bunch of great motorcycles and race cars. I received two Tesla modules today from a 100D with less than 7K miles on it. In a day or so I'll get my EVTV Tesla battery controller. I have four 310 watt panels to put on the roof, I'll pull one MPPT controller out of Fritz and the inverter, charge up the battery and run the spare AC I have that I took off Frtiz. Seems like a perfect test bed. I can log all the responses of the battery to different charge rates. The Tesla BMS has a few temp detectors but I'm going to add a bunch more. This should be fun--pure nutball shit.

I dropped off my drawing for the battery box that will go under Fritz, bolted to the frame, at Schlosser's today to get the steel cut. I make those guys crazy. The boss said, "what the fuck are you going to put in this, an atom bomb??" I explained what I was doing, he looked at it again and said "good plan."

this might get to be like "free solo", PB----where the audience starts to feel guilty for encouraging the process!!
