OK...think about this. You’re at your favorite wave foiling site. The waves are big and the wind is light near shore. Happens all the time. Your kitting buddy launches and because his kite is high and he can create wind, he makes it outside. You, on the other hand, are stuck in the light wind situation. Kind of like windsurfing. You think....I can do this. Bad things will happen. I admit, I haven’t seen it yet, but it will not be pretty. Stay tuned....

There is a way lower wind requirement for foiling on a Wingsurfer than planing on a windsurfer.  12 mph looks about right with the right gear and once up you can point super high (not me, you :) ).  That will be enough to make it really fun.  Places with a good channel will work at sub-foiling speeds.  These things slog upwind very well in the same wind that makes it difficult to hold ground on a windsurfer and pumping for speed is actually easier than with a windsurf sail.  That should be plenty to get you foiling in very marginal wind once on a wave (or even a forming outside swell).  I know we will see some great video of that once winter hits.  The channels at Ho'okipa, Kuau and Kanaha should work just fine (although the surfers may not agree :) ).  Plus, these should open up a lot of alternate, unused locations.  Here is a vid of a rider using the far shoulder of some small Makaha in fairly light wind on a 4.  He is just swell riding but it gives you an idea of the possibilities.

Glad I’m in Florida....when the rest of you are snowboarding, I’ll finally be able to get a wing surfer   ;)

We were just talking about winter.  Baja?  DR?  ____?  :)

Barbados! 85 degrees, waves, wind, low cost.

I plan to be wing foiling and wing foil downwinding all winter. Interest in our home in Maui has heated up considerably, but if it doesn't sell, then Maui of course. If it does we'll probably rent something in Sprecks or thereabouts for a month or two and then someplace else warm, windy and wave-y.

This wing foiling has hosed my plans to get Fritz back on the road this year, but that has potential for California and Baja. All I need is a fresh water source. This week or next I'm going to start testing my solar/battery system. 12.5 KWH of Tesla batteries, 1620WH of solar, and a 6KWH inverter. Should be interesting--what could possibly go wrong? Keep your eye peeled for a bright flash from the general area of the Hood River transfer station.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Well I found a Duotone wing today. I was looking in the wrong places.....kite shops.

I met a guy at the beach today and he tells me he has a Duotone. I say where did you find one. He tells me my local SUP shop has lots of them in all sizes. He had a 5m.

WTF.... >:(

I run over to the shop and they have 3 left, all small ones. I take a 3m. They tell me the rep told them it’s a SUP sport and they are exclusive to SUP dealers.

The kite shops in town won’t be happy to hear that story.
