They ended up shipping to windsurf shops instead of kite shops!

For example, these guys have them in stock

https://isthmussailboards.com/slingshot-slingwing-classic-v-1.html

I know a windsurf shop in Florida that got the Duotone, while the kite shop got none.

I guess slingshot cares more about moving their 2020 wind surf equipment than taking care of the kite shops that supported them over the years.

Most people who are wanting one of these wings are not into kiting. I was super stoked to get one until I thought..... I already know how to kite, why do this?
I'd rather be out wind powered foiling on my 25l board as opposed to my 138l.

From what I've heard the interest from shops worldwide that are good customers of the manufacturers went from zero to large stocking orders almost overnight. The few shops that were ordering quantities (like Big Winds) got a fraction of their initial order and the rest got distributed around the world. This is a "anywhere there's wind and water" product, so that's a lot of shops.

A number of the kite foilers I know are very interested in the wing--most have several on order. They can use them immediately without the grim learning curve I'm going through, though there are refinements to learn. If nothing else the setup time is a fraction of what kiting requires. But mostly it's just another way to do something they like.

Wow...Pono knows different kiters than I Do. Most are still laughing their ass off. Just take a look at what they are doing and it’s obvious. Even Robby looks like a kook compared to kiting.

Really....you all feel a need to rag on someone else’s idea of fun. Go away.

I plan to die with more toys than all of you.

I've lived far too much to care what some kiter is laughing at.

OK...think about this. You’re at your favorite wave foiling site. The waves are big and the wind is light near shore. Happens all the time. Your kitting buddy launches and because his kite is high and he can create wind, he makes it outside. You, on the other hand, are stuck in the light wind situation. Kind of like windsurfing. You think....I can do this. Bad things will happen. I admit, I haven’t seen it yet, but it will not be pretty. Stay tuned....

Kite foiling is amazing.  Watching guys on those huge (Ram?) Foil kites going nearly straight upwind in 8 MPH or watching the Paipo freestyle (Boarriding Maui style) is incredible.  Same is true of (Windsurf) Windfoiling.  Those guys are super impressive now.  Surface windsurfing and kiting as well.  Downwind on a surface SUP (canoe, surfski) can keep your mind happily dosed for years of days.  I feel lucky that new sports and new stoke are becoming possible at our ages.  I have been chasing wind since 13 YO. I wouldn't trade any of it, even the false starts that didn't gel with me.

This is something new.  It has a very unique feeling and it is challenging.  If you had to learn it from scratch (no wind sport and no surf experience) it would be very difficult.  Kite foilers are picking it up very quickly.  They certainly put in the miles to learn that sport and they have earned it.

Have a look at the videos here:  https://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php/topic,35031.0.html .  Guys are already riding tiny boards, boosting big airs and cranking at full speed.  Most of these guys have been at it a few months and are still relying on experience from other sports.  They haven't had time to master the stuff that is unique to this.  Also, the gear is first generation.  No first generation gear, ever, in any of these sports nailed it.  You will certainly see rapid advancement of specific boards, wings and hydrofoils for windsurfing.

Everyone has been frustrated by the lack of gear.  That will correct itself but not this summer.  Put it on the back burner for a while, check it out when you can.  It may be the next thing that has you pantomiming in your living room.  Who knows :)
