Can we name these things?
« on: June 30, 2019, 06:08:12 AM »
I give credit to this forum for naming our sport SUP back in the day.

Maybe it is time for us to name this new sport. Maybe a poll Admin.

It gets confusing having a conversation on the beach when everyone calls it something different.

I few locals are calling it Wind Wing, but to me, that is a sail brand.

Wind Weapon was a brand, so no to that.

Wing-Surfer is a Naish brand. So no to that.

To me, they are wings, so wing something makes sense.

They seem more like a sail than a kite.

My vote is wing sail.

So I’m a wing sailor.

We should do that.

I like Wing sufing but I am open to others.

What are we calling windsurf foiling or kite foiling?  Are those the current names?

If so, Wing foiling sounds good to me.  The only problem is that it doesn't get the handheld aspect into play.  We need to reflect that this is a hand job.  Hey...

I don't think SUP got established here, there were a lot of people trying to stop that name. Clay Feeter for one. But yeah, it's pretty confusing now. I generally say wing foiling for the foil version and wing surfing in general.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Windsurfing is called windFoil on most forums. Kite foiling is kiteFoil

Wingsurfing and Wingfoiling seem to be the 2 frontrunners.

Wingboarding seems to cover most, with sub categories of wingsurfing, wingfoiling, wingsailing and so on.

Boarding has never held up long term.

Sailboarding died off. Windsurfing won.

Kiteboarding has died to some extent. Kitesurfing is winning.

I don’t see wingboarding making it.

I like wing surfing provided it doesn’t cause trouble with Naish.

I’m sure manufacturers would like to avoid foiling in the name. They will sell more wings without the foiling tag stuck to it.

I think the name should be able to be a noun and a verb. wingsurfing will turn into a Wingsurfer.

I like Handkite, but handkiting sounds stupid. I like windwing also, but wind winging... Maybe just winging be the verb.

Wing-sail would be wind-sailing. Works for me.

But Wing and foil together in the name just gets very confusing when ordering p n the phone. Especially because the foiling part is somewhat optional.

Going winging
Wingsurfing - naish?
There was a wingsurfer before naish.
Doubt it matters.

Im sure jacuzzi isnt angry about their brand used as a noun.

You gonna wing today?
