I learned I don't like super wide boards...I lose the ability to pump the board for speed like one does on a shortboard.
Good to hear from you Eric :) I can see that it would be harder to sink the wide tail in order to pump. Like Pono says, the need to pump may not be there? Can't wait to try it.

Nice treat for yourself! Enjoy  :)

Funny how it's never the heavy stuff that tweaks the back, but the little bend and turn - BAM !

Heal well and get back out there.

Too true. Last year I picked up my shoe and spent a week in pain.

Ok........ I fricking love this board. Kirk nailed it for me. Even though it was custom shaped for someone else named 'Mark' (the person who it was originally shaped for and has his name on the board) it was ultimately really shaped for me. Every aspect of this board has my name on it. It's plenty stable, the length is the shortest I've ever SUP surfed. The step down rails and flat deck are my favorite. The wide tail suits my skatey style. 100% stoke. Here's some screen shots from it's maiden session. The kook hat doesn't work with my height and a shorter board, so I thought I'd try the paddle mount. I like the angle better.

I did paddle thru some shit for those waves. Doheny water looks like a big trashcan with water in it. The south swell pushes all the crap into Doheny and the harbor jetty traps it. Just don't look down, keep your mouth closed and rinse off as soon as you get out. Good waves!

The speed is great. The first wave I pivoted into, I stepped back to sink the tail and I did just that. I sunk with it. I realize I just need to shift my weight, NOT step back :D
