L41 SIMSUP birthday gift
« on: June 23, 2019, 03:06:55 PM »
I just bought my first L41 SIMSUP used on CL. It's in great, if not perfect shape as you can see. It's 8'8 x 32" x 4-1/2"  146L  20 lbs. I threw my back out after a great Monday surf session (which I GoPro'd film to come). Just rinsing off at the SanO shower, bent over to pick my board up and pop! There goes the back :'(
Feeling much better today, but I won't get to surf it for a while. This was a birthday gift to myself. It's been a few years. I want to thank Al, the previous owner for giving me such a great deal. On top of that, delivering it to my house! Way too much volume for 160 lb AL, but perfecto for me. Time will tell if I like these wide ass boards. A report to follow when my back heals a... little ::)

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Tall dude - You scored! I spy step rails, a bat tail, vectra net, quad only, unless you try it as a twinnie!

Hope the back heals quickly so you can give this rascal a spin!

That is a nice birthday gift you gave yourself. I know you'll enjoy it when your back heals up. I also have a cranky lower back so I know what you're going through. Hope you heal up quick.

Your going to rip on that board!

That board will work great at San Onofre and Churches.

Some south swells forecasted this week.  Hope your back heals up soon.

Come back and give us a ride report soon.   :D

I'm walking and stretching and the back is feeling better. Still tentative bending over. Not there yet...  Doing the knee dip to pick things up.

I used to have an L41 ST.  Fun board!  I imagine it'll work great at Sano.

I learned I don't like super wide boards...I lose the ability to pump the board for speed like one does on a shortboard.

Taller than most, shorter than others.

You'll be shocked at how fast this board is. The first time I got mine slotted into a wave breaking top to bottom I thought I was going too fast to turn. Freaky. If you've ever surfed Rincon you know how much work it is to connect one break to another--generally, the wall o' rocks approach quickly and ends the ride. I've had several L41 rides from outside Indicator to the sand. No way that was me, just the sneakers. The only thing I've been on that's faster in a wave is a foil.

As far as your back goes, the best results I've had for quickly recovering is a good PT.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I was at the beach all yesterday, but the wind just chopped it up. Still a little soreness in my back, so I don't want to push it. I can lift and stretch daily, which is getting me there. I paddled flat water the other day with my long paddle. No pain, just focused on my core and paddling more upright. It's better than expected in two weeks.

When I finally ride it, I will report.
