That’s a good question Burchas. More curiosity than anything I suppose. And also testing my limits. A year or so ago I was looking at a 12’ 6” x 22” Blackfish, but it sold before I got the chance to test paddle it. So if nothing else I think I’d like to at least give this one a test paddle. Quite honestly, I’m probably more concerned about it being a dugout than the width. I’ve paddled a dugout once, for maybe a couple of minutes and really didn’t like it. But then again, a two minute paddle is hardly a fair test.

Deep dugouts and narrow widths are a deadly combination. My advice is that if you are getting a dugout, get one in a width that means you won’t be falling. Or, if you are going narrow, then get a board it is easy to get back on after a fall.

I would strongly suspect that you should trust your initial impression of a dugout. Some people like them, some don’t. If you are in the latter camp, no amount of familiarity will change that perception. Indeed, your irritation with it will just grow.
