Foil position in tracks and other questions
« on: June 18, 2019, 07:21:37 PM »
So I’ve finally sort of figured out how to catch waves. ;D  I moved the foil almost all the way back in the tracks because I had been having trouble keeping the board down when initially paddling into a wave. This has been working well for me so far. My front foot is just behind the mark (Jimmy Lewis Flying V). But, in the widest stance that’s comfortable for me, my back foot is well in front of the mast.

I am hesitant to move the foil more forward as there are times where I still have trouble keeping the foil down, like on a steeper/faster wave. I’m sure this mostly operator error.  ;D

Should I try moving the foil forward?  Or should I try a different tail shim?

Thanks!

I'd leave the foil in the back and if it's still lifting too much, drop a wing size in the bigger waves or if the rear wing can be shimmed for less lift, go that route. I use an Axis 102 for wind chop, Neil Pryde Large for 1-3' slow waves and anything bigger or a fast wave I'm on the NP medium. The right wing for the right wave makes all the difference.
