2020 Naish Maliko pics
« on: June 14, 2019, 09:49:32 AM »
With the new dugout Javelin as expected, it looks like the Maliko is going
Even more downwindy. If stiff enough might be a good as a touring board as well.

14 x 23 @ 242L
14 x 26 @ 273L
14 x 28 @ 295L

All 6 11/16" / 17 cm thick

Tail and nose took a different shapes with a round pin tail and more traditional
Piercing nose (might work better up wind)

Hope to test it soon

in progress...

Yes I am quite curious to know how the rocker and new nose work on flat water as the 28" could be a good light touring/fast cruiser for distance paddle for my 170 lbs. Not sure if the 26" would best the 2018 design on downwind but cannot really fault mine. The construction might also have been improved in term of weight.

With this rocker I suspect it will still need high cadence to keep top speed
But with this nose I think it will be considerably better in upwind chop.

Seems like all the added volume went to the nose section which might give you better pop digging into a bump. The rounded pintail should also improve DW handling.

If weight and rigidity are improved it might be a worthy upgrade.

Yep.

And that rocker could actually make it slower than the 2019 Maliko in pure flatwater, perhaps. Time will tell. The Maliko has been a good board for Naish, so I hope they haven’t just messed up a good design.

It's good that they have only two boards in their line-up as long as these two designs are winners in their category. The 2018 design of the Maliko is certainly that (the 2017 might also be).

I think it’s still one of slimmest designs even with the added 1/3 of an inch
Thickness, it would be a stretch to call it a grind compared to the 8-11 inch
Thick “all around” boards currently on the market.

But from the limited data out it seems like they might be positioning the new
Javelin to be the all around racer and the Maliko as the all around fun
