What's up with the tar lately.  I got it on my board a while ago and time has taken about 50% of it off.  I was at the beach last week with the family and my wife got a bunch of that tar on her foot that was hard to get off.  I don't know how you get it off the pad without damaging it because that tar stuff is tuff to get off.  I'm in the so. cal area.

Seems that my memory recalls that maybe mineral oil (baby oil) does the trick? At least off the bottoms of your feet...not sure if it would harm the deckpad.
Haven't had to worry about gettin that tar off in a long while tho.

Cutex nail polish remover will take it off your feet really well, plus it's non toxic.  Never tried it on deckpad.
Goof-Off (avail at Pep Boys or Home Depot) will take it off anything, but can be toxic. When I use it, I swipe it quickly to remove the tar, then wash with water.  The stuff is toxic, but i've used it quickly on car paint, and it's ok.

Nail polish remover is acetone with a little mineral oil added--amazing that it's legal to sell for skin use. Anything that acetone will damage (lots) nail polish remover will too. Goof off is nasty stuff, wear gloves and a respirator, though the toluene fumes will go right through most masks. Quick application probably won't hurt your board. I usually start from the safe end of the scale and work toward a nuclear option. Dish washing detergent and water,  simple green, 409, etc.  Then a little gasoline on a rag (gloves). Then goof off, then acetone.

PonoBill,

Nice breakdown.  Thanks!!  I'll give it a try.  I was in Santa Barbara and had tar on my foot.  Tons of tar along that coastline.

Not tried this on deck pads but I've always used white spirit to remove tar from feet etc., it works pretty good, no doubt it'll work on deck pads but may leave the pad a little greasy, so I'd try scrubbing afterwards with a nailbrush & washing up liquid & rinse.
You might wanna try this on a scrap of pad first to check how well it works.

So has anyone come up with a solution for this shit yet? I got a bunch on my pad yesterday, and today whatever I've tried (Dawn dish soap, vegetable oil - used to get automotive grease off my hands with that, acetone, more Dawn) have all just made matters worse.  :o >:(

EDIT: Yeehaw...WD-40 for the win!!!  :D :D

White gas (camp stove gas) is what I used for years.  Lately, goof off or WD40. If you surf from Ventura north, tar is a given, and it's probably why Wardog's deck pads are primarily black.  Just less cosmetic damage that way.
