So, on Monday when the bunker were flashing to the horizon at Long Beach, mighta been some sharks nearby?

Ive seen dolphins galore, whales, skates, rays , massive boils of blues and strippers—all the time, but I’ve never seen a shark in hundreds of sessions over the years, many recently up high on a Sup. NJ up to Pophams Maine. Of course I haven’t been on cape cod since the 70’s.

Florida? Fuggedaboutit....always see sharks in FL.

Net, I would just as soon not see sharks when surfing.

East...

I think water clarity (or lack there of) has alot to do with not seeing the sharks in NJ
Cool to hear all the wildlife you are seeing, proves NJ waters are clean

water's much cleaner round here--but warmer water temps may be problematic--like i was told the quilt of skates i saw last  year was a couple of months off normal seasonal timing, whatever effect that might have

in general our northeast US atlantic water is uniquely clean--due to its normal cold temps and effective environmental regulation over last several decades

in heat of august it can seem stinky dirty, but not sure if the science backs that up

where water is warm and very polluted, gets bad

cold water is cleaner of microbes and crowds! not all bad

I remember hearing from the Provincetown whale watching folks that a lot the turbidity we get in the northeast is plankton. That's why we get all these whales; they come to feed. When the Atlantic whales are in the clear waters of the Caribbean, they're fasting.

The Hudson where I paddle is very turbid, but it's river silt. Most people think it's pollution, but many rivers are like this.
