Hi J

Perfect question to help define this design!

first off....  a "Point Break" mission statement, of sorts:
make no mistake, this board was designed to maximize fun, in the waves most of us actually surf.

(not the offshore monster reefs, that most other 12+ boards seem to be designed for)
-------------------------------------------------------------

I have had it in up to just slightly over head high (not to be mistaken with Hawaiian terms)
Running it as a thruster with relatively small fins..... 4.5" sides and a 5.75" center
I had some very late drops and hard bottom turns
It always felt rock solid.... not even a hint of discomfort

So..... until it proves otherwise, I'm going to surmise that it will be quite comfortable with some actual size  (for normal humans)
I would not hesitate to take it out at my favorite RI pointbreaks at up to DOH.
These are not sucked up, thick monsters..... just manageable waves I ride all my fav SUPs in.

It would be perfect at the "Wall" in Portugal at up to DOH as well....
it's the first break I thought of when I rode this board.
My buddy over there, said the same thing, after he saw the vid.

This board has very foiled rails and sits low in the water for a 200 liter board. (pic)
Combined with the rounded pin tail, will suit a wide range of waves comfortably
It has a wonderfully shaped nose that is great paddling into waves.

surfinJ..... the rainy cold, unnamed point that I paddled to in the vid, was your brothers house  ;D
Frick'n perfect for that gem!

as a note:
I would never consider riding my 14' Search in the DOH waves I have discussed....
That is a board that I only rode in specific benign conditions.

The "Point Break" is a totally different board, that is extremely easy to surf in most conditions
It surfs more like a blown up "short SUP"

Johnny "RbGar" is a genius for starting us down this road... and Bert nailed this design!

Please use responsibly!
In the wrong hands, this board could unreasonably dominate the peak.  :(

Wow!  VERY impressive!!!!!  That ride starting at min 0:45 is very very nice....it looks like an easy breezy board to maneuver. And especially perfect for small summer New England days....like you said "gonna make a lot of non-surf days surf days.

Of course, equally impressive is the fact that your trunkin it in 50 degree water with others around you in hood, booties and gloves!

First the "Creek", now the "Point Break"......what could possibly be next??????????????  Maybe the best nose riding SUP ever??

Creek, I like how you finagle nontraditional sizes and make them work so well. The main inspiration for getting my 9'2" Ace-Tec for cruising were your videos of cruising on a small board.

Looking at the picture of Rick paddling in the harbor, he seems to be the perfect rider weight for this board.

199 liters is a lot of volume. I imagine it might be a bit floaty for someone under 200 pounds.

A 170 -180 liter version for lighter riders would be cool.

My friend Ryan took the Point Break out while I set up the SoloShot3, and rode it really well, right out of the gate.
He's about 175 lbs.

Ryan loved it.

Big boards do not run by the same volume rules.
It's big for a reason.
Heck, even with me riding it, the weight to volume ratio is 1.84.... well over recommended volume for a rank beginner.

Big boards have always been ridden amazingly well by small guys.... there are videos everywhere disproving the same old talking points.

This board has a design that can be ripped by a 12 year old kid with skills....
or an easy board for a novice to learn on.

It's a big board..... not a short one.
But it feels super light and agile on the water.

Sequence my SoloShot got of Ryan, on my Point Break, as I carried his Laird out to swap with him.

Insert is Ryan on his Laird.... which is heavier than the 12' Point Break

@ supthecreek

Just curious as always.

Does the Point Break have a flat deck or a domed deck?

So, other than being 2 inches wider, 20 liters more volume and more fin boxes, how is the Point Break different from the standard all around Search 12?

Actually the only thing that’s the same is loa, it’s s completely new design: outline, rails, widths, tail, nose......

I can see how the overall outline and tail and nose widths would change with the board being 2 inches wider.

How are the rails different?

very nice sequence, rick

and ryan hits home the concept that the board may be big and exploits those advantages (glide, easy paddle in, access to more distant breaks, etc) yet allows an impressive unexpected nimbleness on the wave

stuck down here with graduation (actually my last HS'er and she's done so well and is off to her top choice college--so not "stuck" at all--lucky stepdad in fact) or id get up by you to swap you into my new quiver and get a try with the point break

thing looks so fun

How are the rails different?

.

Well when I was going back and forth the with Bert,Dylan and Rick on what I wanted etc I didn’t particularly ask what exactly the rail shape diffs between the Search or any other shape in his lineup, in my book that would be a over tweaker question, same goes for overall bottom contours and rockers , I asked what if questions and went with his recommendations, as I said earlier pressing further just flags being a tweaker, and people who over tweak usually end up with flawed designs.
