It was a huge disappointment for me, because they portrayed the Russians a bumbling idiots. They are not. Yes, they made a error that night.

Iíve been in Nuc plants and my company sent a salesman to Chernobyl after the accident to sell them some nuc decon equipment we make. We sold the same decon machines to three mile island.

Another engineering company I worked for in later years, built a plant (different industry) in Russia. The rules and regulations were so overwhelming, we had to hire a specialist company just to deal with it. By comparison, the US is the Wild West.

So...just too much Hollywood BS in that portrayal for me.

Iím sure PonoBill would call BS on some of it too.

Its likely some of them were bumbling idiots.  Roughly half would be below average intelligence.  It isn't hard to imagine a high ranking government appointee falling into the lower I.Q. group.  Our current Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry, comes to mind.  Prior to his post, he didn't even know that management of the vast US nuclear arsenal was part of the department (and he is a climate change denier).

No, no--all the Russians are above average. An earnest lady once told me that the Russians are clearly very intelligent because their language is so difficult to learn.

I'll watch it, it was one hell of an accident, and I've read a ridiculous number of the studies on the accident. It was part of my job. The initiating circumstances for the accident itself were borderline insane, the question that remains unanswered is WTF were they thinking?

And I can't wait until tomorrow: I get better looking every day.
