Cheap tiny POV HD for everyone...
« on: May 15, 2019, 03:37:29 PM »
Don't have the money to join the GoPro enthusiast? Problem solved. $ 29.99 and has a waterproof case. 1080 is the best it does, but that's fine for YouTube. It has image stabilization and 90 minutes of shooting time. Get one and start posting. The wrist mount with swivel is pretty cool.

It's only $29.99. .............. It's only $29.99.  ................  It's only $29.99.  ..................

I have two GoPro Hero's, so I don't need one. I know a number of people who's GoPro Sessions died and they don't make them anymore. This might be a cheap substitute? Good one for the kids who want GoPro's, but will just lose or break them.

Hi Badger, you may have looked it up already but 4K is the latest resolution above 1080p.  If you were thinking of buying the camera I don’t see it as a problem it does say it supports 1080p and less.  Unless I’m misreading something.

I wonder what would be a real-life battery "life"? My Session doesn't survive an hour of winter surfing/paddling.

This camera only supports 1080p resolution, which isn't the current highest quality standard, but the more advanced 4K makes for huge files and slow editing unless you have a very fast computer and solid state disk big enough to hold the files.

They're stealing a march on GoPro by returning to GoPros roots--with a cheap but adequate camera in a waterproof case, for a fraction of the price of a GoPro.

Many boards have a GoPro mount built into it so one can attach a GoPro camera. I went all over that site to see if I could find if this camera could be attached into a GoPro Mount. I did not find any info on this.

When I looked at the young woman underwater on her surfboard, in a segment of the sample video, I noticed this camera looked like it was being held in place onto the top of the board by a flat suction (cup?) type of device. If this is the case, then this is an automatic deal breaker for me.

That looks to be their curved adhesive mount.  https://store.dji.com/product/osmo-action-adhesive-mount-kit

I know that Soloshot 3's are a bit pricey but considering the money we pay for boards, paddles, wetsuits, etc., the product one can obtain can not be out done (a side from maybe a drone).....

I've got soooooo many hours of video that I've used as a training tool which has been invaluable  - and lot's of still images which are easily captured and exported.  I've framed several 8"x10" shots and even blew up one image (below) to a 3'x4' poster (and built a frame from home depot molding for less than 10 bucks.  SOOOOOO worth the Soloshot!

(Oh, as far as performance): Early on I had a minor tracking problem for one or two sessions but I've had probably somewhere between 50-100 sessions with nary a problem (and all on Water/tight setting).  I did all the software updates as they were released too...hasn't been any for months now).  Works like a dream!

Do yourself a favor!!!  You won't regret it!!!!

apologies for the diverge...  ;)

Board, body and paddle mounted surfing videos are often very boring when used for wave riding and/or selfies. I think most people have figured this out and that's why we don't see many of these types of videos posted on the forum any more. Up until a few years ago they were very common.

The best way to use a goPro type camera is to take video of other surfers with the camera mounted on your wrist.
