Rope starter for Foil.
« on: January 16, 2020, 10:33:20 AM »
I stumbled upon the fun'est Youtube video I have seen recently - some guys on the beach in maybe OZ ...' Bungie-launching' their foil.  It was a hoot. ...and reminded me of something I got many years ago. I bought, what seems, a pretty serious slinger.  I was going to use it with a trick skimboard I had but I ran into two problems: we do not really have any 'flats' here ...and my 98lb wife would not have been able to hold it while I got my c'hit together.  Still, it's a good idea!

I was not able to find those guys again, but we have an experienced hand aboard this forum, Clay of ClaysIsland.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5o7IJUX3qI&t=40s

His was, like 100' (21m) vs mine at 21' (6.4m) My double-braided cords are 5/8's (15mm)   My suspicions are, his @100' would have a longer duration, perhaps with less violence.  Anyway... it's 'all ahead fun'.

Right on, good luck and hope to hear a report.

FYI - caution regarding what you tie the bungee to, there are horror stories of serious injury from people who attached it to a lawn dart or similar lethal anchor that came loose and snapped back hitting people.

Here's our 2.0 setup, maximum pull, our water anchor came loose several times and drifted 20-30 before getting reanchored on the bottom.  That's the benefit of a long bungee - no chance of it snapping back and hitting us.

Also if I remember correctly there are a few videos of guys doing short bungee pulls into prone flatware pumping.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Clay, thanks for sharing these great videos. Looks fun.

What foils did you try? Looked like maybe a GLsomething.
