I recognize Dave's face from past events and surfs with the national seashore crew. I am so sorry for the their loss and the loss to Dave's family and friends. While I am sorry I will not get the chance to know him, to form a friendship and share in all the many, many gifts he obviously brought to the party of life I am joyful so many people did. He looked to be extending his prime with joy, laughter and fitness. He will be my inspiration in 2019 and beyond as I find my way back to the joys of ocean.

I and my buddy Ray T may have been the last to talk to Dave. Everyone was done surfing for the day once the tide got low some hung out in the parking lot for awhile talking story, checking out a friends new surf van, the vibes were right because all had a good session waves for everyone. Most left and I was putting my camera in my gear bag in the parking lot and Dave shows up and kidding I said Oh, you missed it which was basically true though. Dave said he had to help his sister move. It was just starting to sprinkle they were calling for rain but Dave said I just want to go out and get wet. The waves were like knee high by now nothing special but the draw of the ocean called. Dave then headed towards his car. Ray and I took off in our cars not thinking twice.

I didn't find out about Dave until I got home. A surfer friend who lives in the western part of Massachusetts 100 miles away called said he heard it on the news. Then the text started and the second guessing, etc. Dave will be truly missed, very easy going guy. His last words will always stick with me... I just want to get wet.

Some previous photos of Dave.
