ULI Steamroller or Lopez?
« on: March 17, 2009, 06:53:35 AM »
I'm going to the Galapagos in July, so I must have a travel board, you know, just in case.
What do you all think? Buy a 10.0 Steamroller now, while they are on sale, or wait for the Lopez to come out?

BTW, here in Bangor Maine, the water is still hard but the river is starting to open up. I got out for my first paddle of the year on Sunday. Air temp. was an astonishingly warm 50 F. Water, 32 F with car-sized ice chunks. It rocked.

let me first paraphrase this by stating that i haven't ridden either but from what i understand the lopez is lighter (high performance) so considerably less durable. i would opt for the steamroller to cover you while on the road and whatever you may encounter in the river.
whoever invented the hole... knew nothing.

My Steamroller was absolutely the high point of my recent trip to Costa Rica - and definetly would be my first choice board if I could only have one - having said that - I'm going to get an ULI Lopez as soon as is possible  - so my answer to your question would be  - get the Steamroller whilst it's on offer and a Lopez later on  ;D

oooh ooh yeah...close you eyes if you dont like self promotion time now... ;)

are there waves in the galapagos??...if not or if they are small go with the ULISteamroller......good for lakes and rivers...rocks and rapids too...its bulletproof and still surfs great....

the ULI Lopez is a wave riding machine but you have to treat it like a regular board...no rough stuff...no jagged rocks...dont throw it down the stairs like that...

 ;D

Thanks steamroller. I just ordered a 10' with your name on it.

According to...

http://www.wavehunters.com/galapagos/galapagos.asp

...and...

http://www.galapagosurf.net/

...and others, the Galapagos can have spectacular surf, though I won't be there in prime season. But isn't any season on a Pacific Island prime?

Stay hungry.

get the current model and once you get to the galapogos
it is bound to evolve by natural selection into the current model
just like a finches beak

unless of course you belive in intelligent design !

Yes. There can be REALLY good surf in the Galapagos. If you don't bring anything, it'll be firing. Count on it.
