Domain and site lost to squatters
« on: March 20, 2019, 07:16:17 PM »
My wife's uncle is a somewhat known artist and book illustrator lost his website to some Chinese cybersquatters. I wonder what would be a proper steps to try to secure or rather reclaim a website name.

You can follow this process, but really, it's just as effective to pick a different name and attach his website to it. No one cares about specific URLs anymore.

I agree with Bill, mostly.  If he can plant a hook in social media, the actual URL probably means little.  I never really cared enough to ask for five stars and all the modern concerns. I relied on search 'obviousness', product in the street and word-of-mouth to stay reasonably busy for lotsa years.

If you want to feel left-behind, watch a segment on VICE News, HBO, March 20th.  There's a group of young guys simply tearing it up peddling old clothes.   I couldn't find a link to the program, but here's one of the main guys, they make their own programming..
