Footstraps for foil board
« on: March 18, 2019, 09:15:03 PM »
Dont want to start up a debate on footstraps or no footstraps, just wanted to know what brand the foil folks were using.  My current one is starting to fall apart and rub my foot raw (could be technique when i am in a rush to ram my foot in the straps for a late takeoff).

Any recommendations?  thanks.

You can't go wrong with Da Kine footstraps.  I have been using the Tyrant straps which are extra wide and soft which makes them very comfortable and less likely to twist:

There are two basic types of straps. Kite straps and windsurf straps.

windsurf straps are all about the same, regardless of brand. A simple parallel band strap.

Kite straps are more of a foot socket, than a band over your forefoot.

Of the socket type, NSI is softest and best suited for this purpose. Most other kite straps won’t work. https://www.northshoreinc.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=118&idcategory=107

Those NSI straps were good on kite surfboards too. They would allow a lot of foot twisting without discomfort when kiting toe side. Foot would release easy too.

thanks guys for the recommendations.

I am leaning towards the Da Kine.  what is the internal adjustment system which is mentioned in the description?  I like the wide and pre formed arch concept, seems like that would be easiest to get my foot in with minimal trial and error.

Sano: how were the flowers?  You missed some big fun ones yesterday.

I like the Jimmy Lewis straps.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I had Dakine but they were windsurf straps, fine but not great (Maybe just old e.g. 20 years old).

I have upgraded to these slingshot straps which have been great and adjustable on the water:

I got the Dakine Tyrant straps.  My foot was healed enuf to go out this morning.  Wore some old booties to protect the scab and also to deal with the rocks.  Wow these straps are so easy to slot my foot in there and ultra cushioned.

thanks for the recommendations!

Hey Fatfish, Nice meeting you this morning. Thanks' for the hookup. I've got some new foot protection on the way. I found some footbed inserts to take the edge off the lowtide brutal reef walk.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.
